[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) In this study, the forest fire that occurred in 1994 in the Gallipoli Peninsula has been studied through LANDSAT TM satellite images belonging to the dates before and after the fire. Classification algorithms have been applied to satellite images ; end images have been modeled threedimensionally together with the digital elevation model and transferred to a geographical information system. A GIS to be formed for the purpose of preventing a fire in the forests that are among the most important natural resources, measures to be taken and things to be done in the event of a fire and contributions of the satellite images to update such a system have been investigated. [Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (Auteur) There are two basic kinds of compression schemes : lossless and lossy. A lossy compression scheme has advantage that one can achieve much higher compression ratios than with lossless compression. The underlying idea of any compression scheme is to remove the correlation present in the data. The main idea of image compression and multiresolution analysis is to decompose the given function into a simpler low and high resolution detail part so that the original function can be recovered from the combination of the two parts. This process filtering the function into subbands continues recursevely on the low-resolution part until the most basic (crude) representation is reached. In wavelet analysis, named also discrete wavelet algorithm process data at different scales resolutions. MrSID, short for Multi-Resolution Seamless Image Database, utilizes a patented wavelet-based compression technology for compressing and viewing digital raster imagery. [Termes IGN] qualité des donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) Spatial data are always uncertain to some degree. Nevertheless, existing geographical information systems do not allow the consideration of uncertainty in any of the processing steps of an application. However, such a situation can only be tolerated if simple operations are used exclusively in a closed application environment. Only in this case the know-how of an experienced expert is sufficient in order to be able to test the quality reliably. On the other hand, modern applications have the opportunity to access external databases and use complex operators in an increased manner. A simple examination is no longer possible. Instead, a complete integration of uncertainty has to be developed and implemented into the work flow of GIS processing.
The major objective of this research is to develop data models and methods to enable the processing of uncertainty in a GIS. The investigations in particular focus on the processing of geometry as the most important component of spatial data. The phenomena of the real world are represented by objects. The discussion of causes which add for uncertainty forms the starting point for the development of models. Essential influences can already be found in the data collection step caused by abstraction of the real world, discretisation and measurement of data. All the influences have to be covered and described by a suitable uncertainty model. However, due to varied applications, no universal uncertainty model can be defined which meets the diverse requirements of practical work. Therefore, several alternatives are required. Basing on fundamental approaches, three different models are developed and integrated in the well-known object model: the Stochastic Model, the Minimum Maximum Model and the Fuzzy Model.
It is important for applications that data uncertainty is integrated into the different components of a GIS. Data collection receives the additional task to determine the values of the defined uncertainty measures. Different procedures are presented for this purpose, e.g. using multiple repeated collection of geometry or comparison with accurate reference data. Beside the ordinary visualisation of the uncertainty values as special displayable attributes it is interesting to see the spatial effect of uncertainty. Isolines and matrix representations can be used as possible techniques. The existing management concepts have to be extended in order to include the additional information. A geometrical or an attributive procedure provides a solution for this. The analysis step as the most important component in a GIS has to solve a transfer of uncertainty to the result. In particular, this step concentrates on geometrical analysis methods, i.e. length and area calculation, determination of the shortest distance and the geometrical overlay of objects. The necessary propagation methods are derived and discussed for all described uncertainty models.
The development is carried out without regard to special GIS products and therefore can be seen as independent. However, the research defines a complete concept which is suitable for the transfer to any system. In this connection the Geo data standards which are currently under development play an important role. User acceptance will profit from compatibility with these standards. A verification shows that the given definitions of models and methods can be embedded into standardisation without any problems, so that there should be no serious impediments to the practical implementation of the concepts.
