[Termes IGN] télémétrie laser aéroportéRésumé : (Auteur) The Survey Department of Rijkswaterstaat in The Netherlands makes extensive use of laser scanning for topographic measurements. An inventory of sources of errors indicates that errors may vary from 5 to 200 cm. The experience shows that errors related to the laser instrument, GPS and INS may frequently occur, resulting in local distortions, and planimetric and height shifts. Moreover, the results indicate that for flat terrain, having corrected for gross errors, an offset of less than 10 cm can often be obtained and standard deviations are generally well within 15 cm. For hilly and flat terrain densely covered by vegetation, accuracy estimates do not generally fulfil those required by Rijkswaterstaat. However, the use of an adequate strategy for data collection and processing will, to a great extent, improve the accuracy and fidelity of the results. Thus, research should be devoted to the design of appropriate strategies for data collection and processing. [Termes IGN] réseau bayesienRésumé : (Auteur) During the last years an increasing demand for 3D data of urban scenes can be recognized. Techniques for automatic acquisition of buildings are needed to satisfy this demand in an economic way. This paper describes an approach for building extraction using digital surface models (DSM) as input data. The first task is the detection of areas within the DSM which describe buildings. The second task is the reconstruction of geometric building descriptions. In this paper we focus on new extensions of our approach. The first extension is the detection of buildings using two alternative classification schemes: a binary or a statistical classification based on Bayesian nets, both using local geometric properties. The second extension is the extraction of roof structures as a first step towards the reconstruction of polyhedral building descriptions. [Termes IGN] Nil (delta du)Résumé : (Auteur) The coastal district between Baltiem and Gamasa towns represents the only remaining desert area in the northern pan of the Nile Delta. This area covers about 450 km and is occupied by various types of landforms including : beach, sandy plain, sand dune, wedand, sabkha, and evaporite crusts. The development plan of this region is facing a number of constrains which affect negatively the sustainability of development activities in this area. These constrains include : coastal erosion and accretion, sea level rise, and sand dune encroachment. The negative impact of these phenomena has been studied, in detail, using the multi-temporal analysis of remote sensing data as well as field and laboratory investigations. Monitoring changes in landuse-landcover has also been carried out using unsupervised classification of Landsat TM and SPOT images in years 1990 and 1995 respectively. [Termes IGN] penteRésumé : (Auteur) Few studies have compared algorithms for mapping surface slope and aspect from digital elevation models. Those studies that have compared these algorithms treat slope and aspect angles independently. The evaluation and comparison of surface orientation algorithms may also be conducted by treating slope and aspect as characteristics of a bidirectional vector normal to the surface. Such a comparison is more appropriate for selecting an accurate surface orientation algorithm for applications that use bidirectional measurements, such as modeling solar radiation or removing the topographic effect from remotely sensed imagery. This study empirically compared the slope angle and bidirectional surface angle estimated from five slope/ aspect algorithms using a synthetic terrain surface and an actual terrain surface. The most accurate algorithm is consistently that which uses only the four nearest neighboring elevations in the grid. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laserRésumé : (Auteur) A wide-angle airborne laser ranging system (WA-ALRS) is developed at the Institut Géographique National (IGN), France, with the aim of providing a new geodesy technique devoted to large (100km) networks with a high density (1 km-2) of benchmarks. The main objective is to achieve a 1-mm accuracy in relative vertical coordinates from aircraft measurements lasting a few hours. This paper reviews the methodology and analyzes the first experimental data achieved from a specific ground-based experiment. The accuracy in relative coordinate estimates is studied with the help of numerical simulations. It is shown that strong accuracy limitations arise with a small laser beam divergence combined with short range measurements when relatively few simultaneous range data are produced. The accuracy is of a few cm in transverse coordinates and a few mm in radial coordinates. The results from groundbased experimental data are fairly compatible with these predictions. The use of a model for systematic errors in the vehicle trajectory is shown to be necessary to achieve such a high accuracy. This work yields the first complete validation of modelization and methodology of this technique. An accuracy better than 1 mm and a few mm in vertical and horizontal coordinates, respectively, is predicted for aircraft experiments.
