[Termes IGN] reconstruction d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) Given the hyperspectral-oriented waveband configuration of multiangular CHRIS/Proba imagery, the scope of its application could widen if the present 18-m resolution would be improved. The multiangular images of CHRIS could be used as input for superresolution (SR) image reconstruction. A critical procedure in SR is an accurate registration of the low-resolution images. Conventional methods based on affine transformation may not be effective given the local geometric distortion in high off-nadir angular images. This paper examines the use of a nonrigid transform to improve the result of a nonuniform interpolation and deconvolution SR method. A scale-invariant feature transform is used to collect control points (CPs). To ensure the quality of CPs, a rigorous screening procedure is designed: 1) an ambiguity test; 2) the m-estimator sample consensus method; and 3) an iterative method using statistical characteristics of the distribution of random errors. A thin-plate spline (TPS) nonrigid transform is then used for the registration. The proposed registration method is examined with a Delaunay triangulation-based nonuniform interpolation and reconstruction SR method. Our results show that the TPS nonrigid transform allows accurate registration of angular images. SR results obtained from simulated LR images are evaluated using three quantitative measures, namely, relative mean-square error, structural similarity, and edge stability. Compared to the SR methods that use an affine transform, our proposed method performs better with all three evaluation measures. With a higher level of spatial detail, SR-enhanced CHRIS images might be more effective than the original data in various applications. [Termes IGN] image hyperspectraleRésumé : (Auteur) Earth Observing-1 Hyperion data were found to be relatively noisy and to contain significant cross-track spectral curvature nonlinearity disturbances, known as the smile/frown effect. A method for the correction of spectral curvature effects (smile) in Hyperion images, termed trend line smile correction (TLSC), is presented. The method is based on the assumption that there is a partial correlation between data spectral nonuniformity, due to the smile and eigenvalues gradient that mostly appears in the first minimum noise fraction (MNF) image (MNF-1). However, MNF-1 consists of both spatial and spectral information. Therefore, it is hypothesized that adaptation applied to MNF-1, according to exclusively spectrally derived parameters (e.g., atmospheric absorption features) can account specifically for the smile effect in the data. A set of normalization factors, calculated from the spectral derivative at the right-hand side of the O2 absorption feature (760 nm), MNF-1 and the moderate-resolution atmospheric transmittance radiative transfer model, are used to scale the initial MNF-1. The image is corrected after the inverse conversion of the MNF to radiance space. The methodology was tested on four different Hyperion scenes and consistently outperformed other tested methods by up to nine times. As a result, thematic mapping, using the TLSC-corrected reflectance data cube, was shown to be consistent with the geology maps of the study area. [Termes IGN] traitement d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) In the present work multi-spatial, spectral and temporal images taken from space platform were acquired to analyze Talakadu (an archaeological site in Karnataka, India) area and identify linear features and geometrical shapes on the surface that are not natural but can be human artefacts from the past and therefore might indicate potential loca-tions for archaeological exploration. Before such remote sensing data can be used they have to be processed and prepared for facilitating meaningful interpretation. The scope and importance of image processing and enhancements depend on the sur-face conditions of study area. The peculiar geo-graphical configuration of the Talakadu area has made the greater part of an old township complete-ly buried under wind blown sand from the river Kaveri that skirts the west of Talakadu. Towards carrying out analysis in spatial, spectral and tem-poral domains, space imagery from Landsat Thematic Mapper, Multispectral images from LISS-IV sensor of Indian Remote Sensing Satellite (IRS) series and high resolution images from IRS CAR-TOSAT series were used. Several image-processing algorithms were employed to evaluate their effica-cy to identify linear features and geometrical shapes that might indicate presence of buried remains. These include enhancements and improve-ments in data quality, Pan sharpening, Principal Component Analysis for enhancement and change detection studies. These analyses were conducted after subjecting all the imagery to a common refer-ence frame through automated registration using non-linear methods with sub-pixel accuracy. This work presents the details of the various image pro-cessing techniques used to investigate their effica-cy in the context of identifying the different archae-ological details both known ones and possibly new potential locations. Our preliminary analysis indi-cates at least four likely locations for further archaeological exploration, thus suggesting a new approach in the light of the methodology available.
