[Termes IGN] traitement parallèleRésumé : (Auteur) Parallel processing comprises the concurrent use of multiple processors to speed execution of one operation. Although techniques suited to most of the common geographical data models have been prototyped, the prominent exception has been vector topology. This paper explores whether operations that create a vectortopological dataset can benefit from parallelisation. It describes techniques for using multiple processors concurrently to create vectortopology for multiple subareas, and for stitching these subareas together to form the resultant dataset. To achieve performance gains over sequential processing, the overhead of the stitching must be less than the gains from the parallel processing of subareas. These methods are tested in the context of the conversion of raster data to polygonal vectortopology. Speedup in comparison to singleprocessor performance is achieved on both a 4processor sharedmemory Sun server and using up to 15 processors of a Cray T3E. The approach taken hides the parallelism and the management of the vectortopology in a software framework that simplifies the task of parallel application development. [Termes IGN] Triangulated Irregular NetworkRésumé : (Auteur) This paper deals with the enrichment of Triangulated Irregular Networks (TIN) with linear vector data such as roads, orography and hydrology, or with surfacic vector data such as buildings and lakes. On the real ground, these features locally modify the relief intensively. We want to integrate these micro-reliefs in the TIN. In particular, this is the case of roads, frequently made with excavation/embankment, or dikes. Moreover, some of these objects follow physical rules. Our aim is to rectify the TIN on the basis of such rules. We know, for example, that rivers always flow in talwegs and always downhill. Simply placing vector geographical objects on a TIN generally gives unrealistic results. For example, we can often see rivers running uphill because of bad integration. Our aim is to integrate 3D geographical objects in a TIN in order to compute an accurate TIN, ressembling ground reality as much as possible. The main purpose is to demonstrate that computational and visual techniques are complementary, and their combined use in data analysis may produce a synergistic effect. To this end, we describe two example scenarios of data analysis in the evaluation of potential damage from earthquakes and in analysis of forest resources. The analyses were performed with the use of CommonGIS, featuring the availability of powerful geocomputational tools and interactive visualizationrelated facilities that can be efficiently used in combination in a desktop environment or via the World Wide Web. [Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) Digital and automated photogrammetric methods and procedures developed for the collection and management of spatial data have been well introduced on archaeological applications. The use of terrestrial laser scanning systems provides new capabilities for 3D visualization of the present situation of a site. Recently, special tools in Spatial Information Systems (SIS) and management systems of virtual world models (VR) have been developed. Their combination can provide relevant scientists and users with a variety of possibilities for the creation of integrated systems capable for documentation, restoration and cultural development of archaeological monuments and sites, with: the detailed 3D documentation of the present condition of the site, the development of a multi-purpose SIS and the introduction of modern digital products at a local museum, such as 3D representations, creation of virtual environment, Web applications. Application of these techniques and systems was made to the archaeological site of the Mycenae, one of the most important sites worldwide. Photogrammetric procedures and laser scanning were used for the data collection. Airphotos were taken by helicopter and a large number of terrestrial photos by analogue and digital cameras. Orthophoto production for the site and detailed 3D vector restitutions, horizontal plans, facades and sections were made. In addition 3D views of vector data and textural scenes were produced by automated procedures. The development of the SIS is based not only on the data and products of the photogrammetric processing, but also on various other data sources, as the structure of the system contains historic, archaeological, architectural and technical information, with texts, digital images (recent and old pictures, old graphic representations etc.), video, 2D or 3D views plans, 3D representations of particular parts of the site, visualization of tour paths. The establishing of a local museum at the Mycenae is one more challenge for applying phorogrammetric procedures, object modelling techniques with laser scanning, texture mapping, 3D representations, VR applications and Web-related issues. The paper investigates all these possibilities in relation with the data of the particular archaeological site concerning the information supply, the difficulty in demonstrating moveable findings of great value, which are exposed in other museums, and also the knowhow and the financial parameters. The methods of direct georeferencing naturally have a high level of automation where indirect methods still need manual interaction. Within this thesis, a completely implemented system for automatic indirect georeferencing is presented. The developed procedure is based on features of polygons being extracted in the data sets to be matched. Where image data are in raster form by nature, reference data for the outlined system can be in raster or in vector form. There do not exist any limitations in form of approximate values. The extraction of polygonal objects from image data is carried out by multiple segmentation. In order to evaluate the results of the chosen region-growing algorithm, several examinations are carried out. Merging of neighboured polygons with the same object class does the extraction of suitable polygons from GIS reference data. Within the framework of this thesis, German ATKIS data are used exclusively. Based on the theory of affine invariants of algebraic forms, features are developed which can be computed from geometric moments of raster and vector polygons. Alternatively, polygon features are derived from cross-weighted moment's invariants that can be obtained from geometric moments of raster and vector polygons in a similar way. Studies on the robustness of the features and their ability to discriminate similar objects are carried out by the use of synthetic and real data. A backtracking-depht-first tree search algorithm with unary and binary constraints obtains the matching of image and reference data. In order to formulate the constraints, an affine transformation is computed from the geometric moments for each pair. The procedure is based on the theory of standard positions. A closing verification step leads to a global affine transformation between image and reference system. The approximate transformation is individually refined with the IterativeClosestPoint algorithm. Based on the optimised affine transformation for each polygon pair, tie points are generated automatically on the borderline of the polygons. Based on a theoretical consideration, extensive studies on the achievable tie point accuracy were carried out with three synthetic and real data sets. The performance and robustness of the developed system under various input data is demonstrated by controlled application of disturbances.
