[Termes IGN] polarimétrie radarRésumé : (Auteur) Analyzing the precision of vegetation height estimation with compact (i.e., single transmit instead of dual transmit) polarimetric interferometric synthetic aperture radar (PolInSAR) with the homogeneous random volume over ground model can help justify the use of this type of radar rather than using the full PolInSAR. However, since compact PolInSAR provides less information than full PolInSAR, a loss of precision in the vegetation height estimation is expected, which can depend on the single transmit polarization. The adaptation of the Cramer-Rao bound (CRB) derived for full PolInSAR in our earlier work to compact PolInSAR measurement provides a general methodology to characterize this loss of precision. Indeed, the CRB is a lower bound of the variance of unbiased estimators that does not depend on the choice of a particular estimation method. We illustrate this methodology for P-band measurements with three synthetic examples chosen for their variability of polarimetric responses. For these examples, it is shown that there can exist a large set of transmit polarizations for which the loss of precision described by the CRB is small (smaller than a factor 2) although there also exist transmit polarizations for which the loss can be large (about a factor 100). This loss of precision is compared with the large dependency of the precision to the vegetation height estimation that can be observed with the vegetation height (more than a factor 100 in the precision described by the CRB) when all the other parameters of the vegetation, ground, and radar system are constant. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Surface albedo has been documented as one of the Essential Climate Variables (ECV) of the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) that governs the Earth's Radiation Budget. The availability of surface albedo data is necessary for a comprehensive environmental modelling study. Thus, both temporal and spatial scale issues need to be rectified. This study reports about the availability of surface albedo data through in-situ and remote sensing satellite observations. In this paper, we reviewed the existing models for surface albedo derivation and various initiatives taken by related environmental agencies in order to understand the issues of climate with respect to surface albedo. This investigation evaluated the major activities on albedo-related research specifically for the retrieval methods used to derive the albedo values. Two main existing albedo measurement methods are derived through in-situ measurement and remotely sensed observations. In-situ measurement supported with number of instruments and techniques such aspyrheliometers, pyranometers and Baseline Surface Radiation Network (BSRN) and remotely sensed observations using angularly integrated Bi-directional Reflectance Distribution Function (BRDF) by both geostationary and polar orbit satellites. The investigation results reveals that the temporal and spatial scaling is the major issues when the albedo values are needed for microclimatic study, i.e. high-resolution time-series analyses and at heterogeneity and impervious surface. Thus, an improved technique of albedo retrieval at better spatial and temporal scale is required to fulfil the need for such kind of studies. Amongst many others, there are two downscaling methods that have been identified to be used in resolving the spatial scaling biased issues: Smoothing Filter-based Intensity Modulation (SFIM) and Pixel Block Intensity Modulation (PBIM). The temporal issues can be resolved using the multiple regression techniques of land surface temperature, selected air quality parameters, aerosol and daily skylight. Long time series of integrated precipitable water (IPW) averaged hourly, daily and monthly can serve as climate indicators. As IPW is mostly influenced by global circulation, not surface processes, correlations of IPW with basic meteorological surface parameters have been analysed. Even more revealing are changes in correlation coefficients calculated for monthly periods for different regions. Simple charts of IPW/temperature which can be treated as climatologic diagrams were investigated. Some of these charts have been analysed with some climatologic insight. This form of presenting IPW statistics reveals the variability of seasonal IPW values. IPW clearly represents the diversity of world climates and is a valuable meteorological and climatologic parameter. [Termes IGN] Tokyo (Japon)Résumé : (Auteur) This paper presents new methodology for correcting interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) deformation maps using GPS observables and products. The methodology presents a sequential procedure for correcting the errors presented in InSAR deformation maps such as troposphere delay, ionosphere delay and baseline error. The main target of this research is to measure land deformations with geodetic accuracy using only one L-band interferogram with the aid of GPS observables and products. The proposed methodology was tested on Tokyo bay area which has been affected by the 2011 Tohoku earthquake. The results were verified against deformations detected by GPS stations and geodetic triangulation network showing a standard deviation of 5.6 and 10.5 mm, respectively. [Termes IGN] teneur en vapeur d'eauRésumé : (Auteur) The vertical structure of the atmospheric water vapor induces phase errors in interferometric synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data. This paper presents a simulation study to investigate whether spaceborne submillimeter radiometric observations, which can be realized with fairly high spatial resolution, are able to derive the vertical structure of the atmospheric wet delay. The accuracy of the retrieved zenith wet delay (ZWD) trend as a function of surface height is assessed in order to correct the associated height dependence of the interferometric phase error in a SAR interferogram. Using a simulated benchmark, we evaluate the errors associated with the use of both a linear and an exponential model of the behavior of ZWD as a function of the surface height. This paper shows a fairly accurate reconstruction of the trend parameters estimated from radiometer brightness temperature images, with respect to realistic atmospheric profiles provided by radiosounding observations (RAOBs). The trend parameters that we consider in this paper are the slope K for the linear model and scale height H for the exponential one. An overall better accuracy is found for the exponential model, which is more representative of the actual behavior of ZWD with height, resulting in a residual uncertainty in the path delay due to the atmospheric stratification of approximately 0.2-0.3 cm and nearly zero bias, as compared to RAOBs.
