[Termes IGN] surveillance de la végétationMots-clés libres : Salvinia molesta Résumé : (Auteur) Field hyperspectral reflectance data were studied at 50 wavebands (10-nm bandwidth) over the 400- to 900-nm spectral range to determine their potential for distinguishing among giant salvinia (Salvinia molesta Mitchell) plants subjected to four population levels of salvinia weevils (Cyrtobagous salviniae Calder and Sands) to develop feeding damage to the plants. The four populations included a control with no insects and those with low, medium and high insect populations. The plants were studied in two experiments on each of two dates: 14 October 2010 and 21 July 2011. Two procedures were used to determine the optimum bands for discriminating among treatments: least significant difference (LSD) and stepwise discriminant analysis. The LSD comparison test results for both October and July experiments showed that generally the best bands for separating among treatments occurred in the green (505–595 nm), red (605–635 nm), red-near-infrared (NIR; 695–745 nm) edge and NIR (755–895 nm) regions where three to four treatments could be distinguished. Stepwise discriminant analysis identified four bands in the green, red and red-NIR edge to be significant to discriminate among the four treatments in Experiment 1 in October. For Experiment 2 in October, discriminant analysis identified five bands in the blue, green, red and NIR regions to be significant for distinguishing among the treatments. In Experiment 1 in July, five bands in the blue, green, red-NIR edge and NIR regions were found to be significant to discriminate among the treatments. For Experiment 2 in July, discriminant analysis identified four bands in the blue, green and red-NIR edge regions to be significant to discriminate among the treatments. [Termes IGN] polarisationRésumé : (Auteur) Polarimetric radar provides useful information on scattering mechanisms, and advances in polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (POLSAR) technology have shown the effect of polarization information on various applications. The disadvantage of POLSAR is low azimuth resolution capability. Since the effective pulse repetition frequency (PRF) in each polarimetric channel of POLSAR is half the total PRF, the resolution is twice as low as the single-polarization SAR. This drawback may be mitigated by employing a superresolution method designed for polarimetric radar such as polarimetric bandwidth extrapolation (PBWE), previously proposed by the authors. Thus far, the authors only empirically showed that polarization information helps in improving resolution via numerical simulations. In this paper, theoretical analysis on the resolution of a polarimetric radar is provided. Along with the resolution, estimation accuracy of the polarization property of the target is studied. In the analysis, we employ the recently proposed metric called the statistical resolution limit (SRL) that provides the highest resolution achievable by any unbiased parametric spectral estimator. The SRL of polarimetric radar is derived and compared with that of single-polarization radar. The Crame?r-Rao bound (CRB) of the polarization estimation error of the polarimetric radar is also derived. The complexified full Fisher information matrix and the CRBs of signal parameters are derived first for the general multichannel signal in nonwhite Gaussian noise. Then, the SRL and the polarization estimation error are derived using the CRBs of signal parameters for the cases where two point targets are closely located. It is shown analytically and numerically that the polarization information helps in improving the SRL. It is also shown that the polarimetric processing significantly improves the accuracy of the polarization estimation when two targets are located closer than the Fourier resolution cell- Finally, the performance of the PBWE is evaluated via simulations and is compared to the SRL and the CRB for the polarization estimation. [Termes IGN] réflectance végétaleRésumé : (Auteur) The aim of the topographic normalization of remotely sensed imagery (TNRSI) is to reduce reflectance variability caused by steep terrain and, subsequently, to improve land-cover classification. Recently, multiple-forward-mode (FM) (MFM) reflectance models for topographic normalizations of medium-resolution (20-30 m) satellite imagery have improved the classification of forested covers with respect to more conventional topographic corrections. We propose an FM 3-D reflectance (FM3DR) model, based on the Discrete Anisotropic Radiative Transfer simulator, for the topographic normalization of high-resolution (1-5 m) imagery. The feasibility of this approach was first verified on real IKONOS imagery for three forest types within major biomes (oak, pine, and high tropical forest) in Mexico. Next, we formalized the topographic normalization performance index and variability as relevant criteria to test TNRSI across incident angles in terms of maximum likelihood classification effectiveness. The FM3DR model outperformed five previously published topographic corrections (cosine, Minnaert, sun-canopy-sensor (SCS), Civco two-stage, and slope matching corrections), and image-based statistical strategies (Civco two-stage and slope matching corrections) tended to perform better than more analytical strategies (cosine, Minnaert, and SCS corrections). An asset of this approach versus former models is the realistic account of terrain-related variation of understory and crown cover within a cover type. On top of that, once validated across forest types, the model is sufficient for the application of a full MFM 3-D reflectance-based topographic normalization without additional field measurement. [Termes IGN] stabilité dans le tempsRésumé : (Auteur) The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) has successfully operated onboard the Terra spacecraft for more than 12 years and the Aqua spacecraft for more than ten years. It has 20 reflective solar bands covering the visible (VIS), near infrared (NIR), and short-wave infrared (SWIR) spectral regions. They are calibrated on orbit using regularly scheduled solar diffuser measurements and lunar observations. In recent years, observations over selected ground targets are also used to monitor detector responses at different angles of incidence. This paper provides a brief description of MODIS on-orbit calibration and characterization methodologies and examines the calibration stability of the VIS, NIR, and SWIR spectral bands over the entire missions of both instruments. Results obtained from four different vicarious approaches (deserts, Dome Concordia, deep convective cloud, and simultaneous nadir overpass) show that Terra MODIS VIS and NIR spectral bands have a wavelength-dependent drift in reflectance with a drop up to 8% in the shortest wavelength region. All four approaches have a relative agreement to within 2.0% with an uncertainty of less than 1.5% for most bands. It is anticipated that the improvements made in the MODIS Collection 6, with additional corrections based on the desert reflectance trending results, will significantly reduce, if not completely remove, some of the trending drifts identified in the Collection-5 data product. [Termes IGN] variance de phaseRésumé : (Auteur) Ambiguity resolution (AR) for a single receiver has been a popular topic in Global Positioning System (GPS) recently. Ambiguity-resolution methods for precise point positioning (PPP) have been well documented in recent years, demonstrating that it can improve the accuracy of PPP. However, users are often concerned about the reliability of ambiguity-fixed PPP solution in practical applications. If ambiguities are fixed to wrong integers, large errors would be introduced into position estimates. In this paper, we aim to assess the correct fixing rate (CFR), i.e., number of ambiguities correctly fixing to the total number of ambiguities correctly and incorrectly fixing, for PPP user ambiguity resolution on a global scale. A practical procedure is presented to evaluate the CFR of PPP user ambiguity resolution. GPS data of the first 3 days in each month of 2010 from about 390 IGS stations are used for experiments. Firstly, we use GPS data collected from about 320 IGS stations to estimate global single-differenced (SD) wide-lane and narrow-lane satellite uncalibrated phase delays (UPDs). The quality of UPDs is evaluated. We found that wide-lane UPD estimates have a rather small standard deviation (Std) between 0.003 and 0.004 cycles while most of Std of narrow-lane estimates are from 0.01 to 0.02 cycles. Secondly, many experiments have been conducted to investigate the CFR of integer ambiguity resolution we can achieve under different conditions, including reference station density, observation session length and the ionospheric activity. The results show that the CFR of PPP can exceed 98.0 % with only 1 h of observations for most user stations. No obvious correlation between the CFR and the reference station density is found. Therefore, nearly homogeneous CFR can be achieved in PPP AR for global users. At user end, higher CFR could be achieved with longer observations. The average CFR for 30-min, 1-h, 2-h and 4-h observation is 92.3, 98.2, 99.5 and 99.7 %, respectively. In order to get acceptable CFR, 1 h is a recommended minimum observation time. Furthermore, the CFR of PPP can be affected by diurnal variation and geomagnetic latitude variation in the ionosphere. During one day at the hours when rapid ionospheric variations occur or in low geomagnetic latitude regions where equatorial electron density irregularities are produced relatively frequently, a significant degradation of the CFR is demonstrated.
