[Termes IGN] simulationRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a variant of p-field simulation that allows generation of spatial realizations through sampling of a set of conditional probability distribution functions (ccdf) by sets of probability values, called p-fields. Whereas in the common implementation of the algorithm the p-fields are non conditional realizations of random functions with uniform marginal distributions, they are here conditional to 0.5 probability values at data locations, which entails a preferential sampling of the central part of the ecdf around these locations. The approach is illustrated using a randomly sampled (200 observations of the NIR channel) SPOT scene of a semi-deciduous tropical forest. Results indicate that the use of conditional probability fields improves the reproduction of statistics such as histogram and semi-variogram, while yielding more accurate predictions of reflectance values than the common p-field implementation or the more CPU-intensive sequential indicator simulation. Pixel values are then classified as forest or savannah depending on whether the simulated reflectance value exceeds a given threshold value. In this case study, the proposed approach leads to a more precise and accurate prediction of the size of contiguous areas covered by savannah than the two other simulation algorithms. Simulations of lidar signal returns for nighttime and daytime operations at 355 and 532 nm show that a millimeter precision on wet path delay is achievable. A simple inversion method to retrieve water vapor and nitrogen concentration profiles is presented. An absolute calibration procedure for instrumental factor and atmospheric transmission is discussed. [Termes IGN] télédétection électromagnétiqueRésumé : (Auteur) In spite of recent optimistic growth prognoses, the commercial success of earth observation is hindered primarily by the inability of satellite operators to generate and consequently to deliver in time the requested products and services to the customer. This however, is vital for th establishment of any kind of service. a potential customer will only change his internal procedures and infrastucture if the avaibility of the alternative products is guaranteed. Consequently, a commercially operated system must aim primarily at offering guaranteed avaibility of information. A satisfactory avaibility of information on large areas of interest when using optical sensors can only be achieved by minimizing the time between the individual revisits and providing sufficient capacity. This understanding led to the definition of the RapidEye concept and the RapidEye imaging system. [Termes IGN] image hyperspectraleRésumé : (Auteur) Independent component analysis (ICA) has shown success in blind source separation and channel equalization. Its applications to remotely sensed images have been investigated in recent years. Linear spectral mixture analysis (LSMA) has been widely used for subpixel detection and mixed pixel classification. It models an image pixel as a linear mixture of materials present in an image where the material abundance fractions are assumed to be unknown and nonrandom parameters. This paper considers an application of ICA to the LSMA, referred to as ICA-based linear spectral random mixture analysis (LSRMA), which describes an image pixel as a random source resulting from a random composition of multiple spectral signatures of distinct materials in the image. It differs from the LSMA in that the abundance fractions of the material spectral signatures in the LSRMA are now considered to be unknown but random independent signal sources. Two major advantages result from the LSRMA. First, it does not require prior knowledge of the materials to be used in the linear mixture model, as required for the LSMA. Second, and most importantly, the LSRMA models the abundance fraction of each material spectral signature as an independent random signal source so that the spectral variability of materials can be described by their corresponding abundance fractions and captured more effectively in a stochastic manner. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed LSRMA provides an effective unsupervised technique for target detection and image classification in hyperspectral imagery.
