Note de contenu : Introduction générale

[Termes IGN] variation saisonnièreRésumé : (auteur) Freshwater resources play a central role in social and economic development of modern civilisations, yet their value is often underestimated and neglected in developed countries. In fact, freshwater habitats are facing unprecedented threat because of human activities, and it is necessary to provide reliable water quality indicators to monitor the response of aquatic systems. In this context, remote sensing has a great potential to provide a complementary source of data for monitoring and understanding the processes involved in inland waters around the world at fine temporal and spatial resolutions. The scientific approach adopted in this thesis is based on the integration of complementary sources of information provided by state-of-the-art monitoring methods to foster our understanding of freshwater habitats. Specifically, we demonstrate the additional value provided by combining complementary sensors with bio-geochemical measurements and hydrodynamic models, using a rare event in Lake Geneva which got a wide public attention in local newspapers: a calcite precipitation event. The principal focus of the remote-sensing community has recently been directed towards very turbid waters in order to address the challenges involved with the retrieval of mixed constituent concentrations. In this thesis, I highlight some important challenges relative to clearer waters which also require further attention from the community. Specifically, I provide a solution to account for vertical nonuniformities of water constituent concentrations using simple approximation models in Lake Geneva. Finally, I provide a comprehensive comparison between state-of-the-art atmospheric correction methods, which are presumably relevant for inland water monitoring and applicable to the new constellation of remote sensors. The aim is to provide reliable recommendations to help forthcoming studies to apply the most suited procedure to their investigation. Note de contenu : 1- Introduction

[Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (Auteur) Compensating the residual motion error (RME) is very important in airborne interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR). In this paper, the wavelet decomposition and polynomial fitting-based (WDPF) method is proposed for detecting and correcting the RME. Wavelet decomposition with root-mean-square error (RMSE) change ratio-based decomposition scale identification is used to detect the RME from the differential interferogram. Polynomial fitting in combination with robust estimation-based least squares is used to absorb the incidence-angle-dependent and topography-dependent components of the RME. A simulated experiment was conducted to test the proposed WDPF method. High-precision RME (with an RMSE of 0.0375 rad) was obtained, which can meet the requirements of InSAR. Real-data L- and P-band InSAR experiments were also performed to test the WDPF method. The results confirmed that the WDPF method can effectively correct the RME for the interferogram. The RMSE of the estimated digital elevation model (DEM) was reduced from 8.03 to 3.46 m and 8.18 to 3.10 m for the L- and P-band interferograms, respectively. Finally, the effects of the external DEM error and polarization on the RME calibration were investigated. The results indicated that the global InSAR DEM products can fulfill the requirement of differential interferogram generation for the WDPF method, and the multipolarization interferograms can help to reduce the effect of the topographic error phase on RME estimation. [Termes IGN] superposition d'imagesRésumé : (Auteur) Many existing approaches for image-to-geometry registration assume that either a textured 3D model or a good initial guess of the 3D pose is available to bootstrap the registration process. In this paper we consider the registration of photographs to 3D models even when no texture information is available. This is very challenging as we cannot rely on texture gradients, and even shading gradients are hard to estimate since the lighting conditions are unknown. To that end, we propose average shading gradients, a rendering technique that estimates the average gradient magnitude over all lighting directions under Lambertian shading. We use this gradient representation as the building block of a registration pipeline based on matching sparse features. To cope with inevitable false matches due to the missing texture information and to increase robustness, the pose of the 3D model is estimated in two stages. Coarse pose hypotheses are first obtained from a single correct match each, subsequently refined using SIFT flow, and finally verified. We apply our algorithm to registering images of real-world objects to untextured 3D meshes of limited accuracy. Moreover, we show that registration can be performed even for paintings despite lacking photo-realism.
