[Termes IGN] troposphèreRésumé : (auteur) Water vapour is a highly variable constituent of the troposphere; thus, its high-resolution measurements are of great importance to weather prediction systems. The Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) are operationally used in the estimation of the tropospheric state and assimilation of the results into the weather models. One of the GNSS techniques of troposphere sensing is tomography which provides 3-D fields of wet refractivity. The tomographic results have been successfully assimilated into the numerical weather models, showing the great potential of this technique. The GNSS tomography can be based on two different approaches to the parameterisation of the model’s domain, i.e. block (voxel-based) or grid (node-based) approach. Regardless of the parameterisation approach, the tomographic domain should be discretised, which is usually performed in a regular manner, with a grid resolution depending on the mean distance between the GNSS receivers. In this work, we propose a new parameterisation approach based on the optimisation of the tomographic nodes’ location, taking into account the non-uniform distribution of the GNSS information in the troposphere. The experiment was performed using a dense network of 16 low-cost multi-GNSS receivers located in Wrocław and its suburbs, with a mean distance of 3 km. Cross-validation of four different parameterisation approaches is presented. The validation is performed based on the Weather Research and Forecasting model as well as radiosonde observations. The new approach improves the results of wet refractivity estimation by 0.5–2 ppm in terms of RMSE, especially for altitudes of 0.5–2.0 km. These so-called signals of opportunity, usually seen as a nuisance in standard navigation applications, contain meaningful information on the nature and relative position of the reflecting surface. Depending on the receiver platform (e.g., ground-based, airplane, satellite) and the reflecting surface itself (e.g., rough sea, lake), the reflected signal, more or less distorted, is difficult to model, and the corresponding methods to estimate the signal parameters of interest may vary. This thesis starts from the navigation multipath problem in harsh environments, which can be seen as a dual source estimation problem where the main source is the signal of interest, and the secondary one is a single reflection of the main source. Depending on the scenario and the resources at hand, it is possible i) to estimate the parameters of interest (i.e., time-delay, Doppler frequency, amplitude and phase) of both sources, or ii) to estimate only one source’s parameters, although these estimates may be biased because of the interfering source. Either way, it is necessary to know the achievable performance for these estimation problems. For this purpose, tools from the estimation theory, such as the Cramér-Rao bound (CRB), can be used. In this thesis a CRB expression was derived for the properly specified case (dual source), and the misspecified one (single source). These bounds were compared to the performance obtained with different estimators, in order to theoretically characterize the problem at hand. This study allowed to establish a clear mathematical framework that also fits the ground-based GNSS-R problem, for which the reflected signal is little distorted by the reflecting surface. In this case, the direct and reflected signals are close in time, which inevitably leads to interference, or crosstalk, and then to a clear performance degradation. Standard GNSS-R techniques, which do not perform well in this ground-based scenario, were compared to the CRB and two proposed approaches: i) a Taylor approximation of the dual source likelihood criterion when both sources are very close in time, and ii) a dual source estimation strategy to reduce or cancel the crosstalk. This part on ground-based GNSS-R was supported by a real data set, obtained from a data collection campaign organized by CNES (Toulouse, France). The problem changes slowly when the satellite elevation increases: the reflection, assumed coherent so far, turns non-coherent because of the reflecting surface roughness. The automatic detection of this transition (i.e., from coherent to non-coherent) is of great interest for future satellite missions. Reflection coherence is mainly observed by looking at the relative phase between the reflected and direct signals. Consequently, a statistical study of phase difference time series allowed to build tests that depend on the time series Gaussianity or regularity. The proposed tests were applied to a data set provided by the IEEC (Barcelona, Spain). Finally, for scenarios where the reflecting surface distorts the signal significantly, it is necessary to adapt the signal model. The approach proposed in this thesis is to consider the received signal as a convolution between the transmitted signal and the reflecting surface impulse response. This signal model goes with the derivation of the corresponding CRB and the implementation of the maximum likelihood estimator. The question of the impulse response size determination, that is, the determination of the number of pulses required to describe the impulse response, was also tackled based on hypothesis tests. Simulation results show the potential of this approach. Note de contenu :

[Termes IGN] réflectance végétaleRésumé : (auteur) Satellite-based data of solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF) and the near-infrared radiation reflected by vegetation (NIRvP) are being increasingly used for the estimation of vegetation gross primary product (GPP) at the global scale. Although SIF contains more physiological information than NIRvP, NIRvP can have higher data quality and spatio-temporal resolution. Therefore, the two variables can be considered complementary for GPP monitoring. Here, we propose a simple framework to combine SIF and NIRvP data from different data sources to generate an enhanced SIF product (eSIF). The original SIF data comes from the TROPOMI instrument onboard the Sentinel-5P mission, whereas NIRvP data are derived from MODIS spectral reflectance and ERA5 reanalysis data. The resulting eSIF product has a spatial resolution of 0.05° and a temporal resolution of 8 days, as well as a higher signal-to-noise ratio and a lower angular dependency than the original TROPOMI SIF data. Our results demonstrate that eSIF has similar spatial patterns to the original SIF but is more spatially continuous and less noisy. Comparisons with the FLUXCOM global GPP product show that eSIF has a more universal relationship with GPP than NIRvP for different grass/crop plant functional types (the coefficients of variation are 18.9% for slopes of GPP to eSIF and 27.3% for slopes of GPP to NIRvP), but NIRvP outperforms eSIF for tracking GPP for forest PFTs exclude BoENF. Moreover, eSIF is able to better track the seasonal variations in GPP related to environmental stresses. This study highlights that our methodology based on the combination of SIF and NIRvP is a promising approach for better monitoring of GPP. [Termes IGN] teneur verticale totale en électronsRésumé : (auteur) The computation of vertical total electron content (VTEC) maps has become an important issue gradually for the international GNSS service. Given the current literature reports, little research is involved in the quantitative analysis of each error of the VTEC map and the spatiotemporal characteristic of global VTEC accuracy. Based on the single layer model and sphere harmonic function, we propose an approach using simulated GPS data to comprehensively verify the accuracy of the VTEC map. The spatiotemporal characteristic of global VTEC accuracy and the errors induced by different processing steps, i.e., carrier phase to code leveling, mapping function (MF), DCB estimation and coefficient fitting, are analyzed and discussed in detail. In addition, the effect of solar activity on the accuracy of the global VTEC map, MF and DCB estimation has been discussed. The results suggest: First, it is found that the MF error at sunrise is more significant than that at sunset, and this important characteristic can be proven based on the analysis of theory and ionospheric radio occultation and VTEC measurements; second, the MF is the most significant error source in the VTEC processing for regions with dense and homogeneous distributed GPS stations, e.g., North America and Europe. The VTEC accuracy in these regions can be improved by 100% with the satellite elevation cutoff angle increasing from 12° to 30°; finally, compared with the global VTEC accuracy using 350 GPS stations observations, the accuracy is improved by 306% based on the double GPS stations with even distribution. In this study, Hyperspectral Optimization Process Exemplar (HOPE) was modified, renamed as M-HOPE, to simultaneously obtain bathymetry and benthic habitat in shallow waters in Xisha Island, China. A local lookup table (LUT) for benthic reflectance spectra was established. Validation using in situ measurements demonstrated good performance of M-HOPE with a R2 of 0.76 for bathymetry using the local LUT. Application of M-HOPE to Sentinel-2A imagery further proved good accuracy of M-HOPE derived bathymetry with a R2 of 0.86 against in situ observations and a R2 of 0.92 against ICESat-2 measurements. M-HOPE-derived benthic classification also agreed well with field observations with probability of detection (POD) >0.6 and false alarm ratio (FAR) Numéro de notice : A2022-907 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1109/TGRS.2022.3229029 Date de publication en ligne : 14/12/2022 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1109/TGRS.2022.3229029 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=102338
