[Termes IGN] WINDSATRésumé : (Auteur) Geolocation and pointing accuracy analyses of the WindSat flight data are presented. The two topics were inter-twined in the flight data analysis and will be addressed together. WindSat has no unusual geolocation requirements relative to other sensors, but its beam pointing knowledge accuracy is especially critical to support accurate polarimetric radiometry. Pointing accuracy was improved and verified using geolocation analysis in conjunction with scan bias analysis. Two methods were needed to properly identify and differentiate between data time tagging and pointing knowledge errors. Matchups comparing coastlines indicated in imagery data with their known geographic locations were used to identify geolocation errors. These coast-line matchups showed possible pointing errors with ambiguities as to the true source of the errors. Scan bias analysis of U, the third Stokes parameter, and of vertical and horizontal polarizations provided measurement of pointing offsets resolving ambiguities in the coastline matchup analysis. Several geolocation and pointing bias sources were incrementally eliminated resulting in pointing knowledge and geolocation accuracy that met all design requirements. [Termes IGN] satellite agileRésumé : (Auteur) Pleiades is a high-resolution optical Earth observation system developed by the French National Space Agency CNES, for civilian and militarian users. It will operate in 2008-2009 two agile satellites with very high geometric accuracy since latest budgets show that the system could reach, after in-flight commissioning, an absolute location performance better than the current Pleiades specifications set at 12m for 90% of images. Given this level of accuracy, the geometric calibration needs the use of a very high planimetric and altimetric accurate reference data which is obtained with heavy and costly means: generally, only one or two areas are equipped, and complete calibration could take several months after launch. In order to gain time, a first "coarse" calibration will be performed using ground control points and an accurate physical model of the instrument. This first step should allow the system to reach its specifications more quickly. This paper presents the global methodology planned to calibrate the geometric location model. It also highlight the need of an accurate GCP data base for this treatment and for periodic assessment of the location budget. [Termes IGN] téléscope électroniqueRésumé : (Auteur) In the Gigapixel article in Geolnformatics 1-2006, the various methods that have been devised to general Gigapixel frame images in the area of amateur and professional photography have been outlined. In this article, a review will be undertaken of the methods being used by scientific astronomers to general large-format digital frame images that are Gigapixel in size. These appear to have much more relevance to satisfy the current needs of the photogrammetric and remote sensing communities for the direct acquisition of larger-format frame images from airborne platforms. [Termes IGN] système de positionnement par satellitesRésumé : (Editeur) GPS timing and navigation user solutions are based on pseudo-range measurements made by correlating user-receiver - generated replica signals broadcast by the GPS satellites. Any bias resulting from this correlation process within a user receiver tends to be common across all receiver channels when the signal characteristics - code type, modulation type and band-with - are identical. Such common biases will cancel out in the user navigation solution and appear as a fixed bias for timing solutions and some atmospheric signal analyses. New GPS signals and the future Galileo signals are somewhat different than the legacy signals broadcast by GPS satellites today, so new ways of accounting for biases will be needed. In this month's column, Chris Hegarty, Ed powers and Blair Fonville discuss this problem and quantify the timing biases of the different legacy and modernized GPS and Galileo signals broadcast on the L1 frequency and their dependencies on factors such as user-receiver filter band-with, filter transfer function and delay-locked loop correlator spacing.
