[Termes IGN] temps de propagationRésumé : (auteur) We present a deep-learning method for a single-station earthquake location, which we approach as a regression problem using two separate Bayesian neural networks. We use a multitask temporal convolutional neural network to learn epicentral distance and P travel time from 1-min seismograms. The network estimates epicentral distance and P travel time with mean errors of 0.23 km and 0.03 s and standard deviations of 5.42 km and 0.66 s, respectively, along with their epistemic and aleatory uncertainties. We design a separate multi-input network using standard convolutional layers to estimate the back-azimuth angle and its epistemic uncertainty. This network estimates the direction from which seismic waves arrive at the station with a mean error of 1°. Using this information, we estimate the epicenter, origin time, and depth along with their confidence intervals. We use a global data set of earthquake signals recorded within 1° (~112 km) from the event to build the model and demonstrate its performance. Our model can predict epicenter, origin time, and depth with mean errors of 7.3 km, 0.4 s, and 6.7 km, respectively, at different locations around the world. Our approach can be used for fast earthquake source characterization with a limited number of observations and also for estimating the location of earthquakes that are sparsely recorded—either because they are small or because stations are widely separated. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (Auteur) To address the high-cost problem of the current three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction for urban buildings, a new technical framework is proposed to generate 3D building facade information using crowd-sourced photos and two-dimensional (2D) building vector data in this paper. The crowd-sourced photos mainly consisted of Tencent street view images and other-source photos, which were collected from three platforms, including search engines, social media, and mobile phones. The photos were selected and grouped first, and then a structure from motion algorithm was used for 3D reconstruction. Finally, the reconstructed point clouds were registered with 2D building vector data. The test implementation was conducted in the Jianye District of Nanjing, China, and the generated point clouds showed a good fit with the true values. The proposed 3D reconstruction method represents a multi-sourced data integration process. The advantage of the proposed approach lies in the open source and low-cost data used in this study. [Termes IGN] voisinage (relation topologique)Résumé : (auteur) The aim of this article is to describe a convenient but robust method for defining neighbourhood relations among buildings based on ordinary Delaunay diagrams (ODDs) and area Delaunay diagrams (ADDs). ODDs and ADDs are defined as a set of edges connecting the generators of adjacent ordinary Voronoi cells (points representing centroids of building polygons) and a set of edges connecting two centroids of building polygons, which are the generators of adjacent area Voronoi cells, respectively. Although ADDs are more robust than ODDs, computation time of ODDs is shorter than that of ADDs (the order of their computation time complexity is O(nlogn)). If ODDs can approximate ADDs with a certain degree of accuracy, the former can be used as an alternative. Therefore, we computed the ratio of the number of ADD edges to that of ODD edges overlapping ADDs at building and regional scales. The results indicate that: (1) for approximately 60% of all buildings, ODDs can exactly overlap ADDs with extra ODD edges; (2) at a regional scale, ODDs can overlap approximately 90% of ADDs with 10% extra ODD edges; and (3) focusing on judging errors, although ADDs are more accurate than ODDs, the difference is only approximately 1%. The period was marked by the emergence of distinctive types of mapping, influenced by the spirit of the Enlightenment, particularly its adoption of consciously scientific methods and reliance on direct observation, the acceptance of geography as an academic discipline and a questioning attitude towards previously accepted authority. Such maps were expensive to create and relied on sponsorship by the state and/or academies and, in their published form, on collaboration of both with the map trade. ‘Enlightenment Maps’ are far from being a homogeneous group, however, are of varying quality, and were less prevalent than generally assumed: many traditional types of map continued to be created, published and purchased by an ever-widening public readership.
