[Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) VGI is an attractive source of data, but the quality assurance limits its usages. This study proposes a framework to estimate the quality of the VGI and to classify them based on the user’s need. For this purpose, a set of properties is defined to describe the data in various aspects. The principal component analysis (PCA) method is applied to reach a new set of uncorrelated indicators (UI). Volunteered data is classified based on the user’s need and takes a quality index (QI). UI and QI values are used to train the ANN. Finally, the trained ANN determines the output of the network in a way that returns QI using the UI as inputs. The proposed method was applied to estimate the quality classes of VGI in a part of an urban area. According to the results of the confusion matrix, the total accuracy of the proposed framework was 81.6%. [Termes IGN] téléphonie mobileRésumé : (auteur) Digital billboards, as a new form of outdoor advertising, has gained popularity in recent years per its revolutionized way to control when and where the specific ads appear. However, this development also demands more complicated optimization for strategic deployments: the advertisers have to not only decide on a set of locations to display their ads, but also when to display them. The existing static optimization approaches become insufficient for this dynamic scenario to match advertisement and intended audience. Therefore, this research proposes three models in a workflow to mine mobile phone data and points of interest (POIs) data and to meet advertising needs in various situations. The three optimization models include a dynamic audience model to maximize the coverage of the target users, a dynamic environment model to maximize the coverage of the target environment, and a dynamic integrated model to maximize the coverage of both target audience and environment. A case study using shopping ads in Wuxue, China tests the three optimalization models. The results show that the proposed models are effective for providing an optimal solution for digital billboard configuration with a greater coverage of the target audience and environment compared to the state-of-the-art static models. [Termes IGN] Toscane (Italie)Résumé : (auteur) This paper presents a spatial-based decision support system (DSS) to assist public and private forest managers in the analysis of potential feasibility in payments for forest ecosystem services (PES) for the prevention of soil erosion. The model quantifies the maximum willingness to pay (WTP) of managers of a reservoir to prevent soil loss. The minimum willingness to accept (WTA) of forest owners for the activation of a private market is also computed. The comparison of WTP and WTA identifies the forest area where PES are ideally feasible with additional potential for compensation to enable the schemes. The DSS highlights forest idiosyncrasies as well as local socio-economic and geomorphological characteristics influencing PES suitability at a geographic level. The potential applications and future improvements of the model are also discussed. [Termes IGN] traitement de donnéesRésumé : (auteur) Acknowledging a paucity of emerging research, and some variation by sub-field, the geographical measures of exposure used in health and medical geography have largely stagnated often focusing on residence-based (‘static’) conceptualisations to define an individuals mobility or exposure. Detailed spatiotemporal data, such as smartphone data, allow richer understandings of the influence of the environment, or more broadly of place, on individual health outcomes and behaviours. However, while researchers are increasingly aware of such ‘dynamic’ definitions of place these are seldom employed in empirical evidence. Moreover, there may be differences in mobility by population groups which has not to our knowledge been examined fully. The main aim of this article is to provide a critical review of progress in the conceptualisation of location in health-related geospatial research to understand the evolution of key concepts and to provoke the reader into considering the utility of a (more) dynamic health geography. We explore the origins of time geography, activity spaces, before moving to recent developments in the area of the exposome and the linked dynamic conceptualisations of exposure in health geography. To illuminate and operationalise findings from our review for readers, we provide a small case study to demonstrate how ‘static’ and ‘dynamic’ approaches differ. Moreover, we consider why understanding heterogeneity in mobility could be particularly salient in the field of health geography, and to the discipline of geography more broadly. To conclude, we help readers understand the practical considerations of data privacy, the process of data collection, data processing, and interpretation, and dissemination of findings to offer practical assistance for those who are grappling with ‘dynamic’ definitions of mobility and conceptualisations of exposure. [Termes IGN] SvalbardRésumé : (auteur) Reliable and accurate mapping of snow cover are essential in applications such as water resource management, hazard forecasting, calibration and validation of hydrological models and climate impact assessments. Optical remote sensing has been utilized as a tool for snow cover monitoring over the last several decades. However, consistent long-term monitoring of snow cover can be challenging due to differences in spatial resolution and retrieval algorithms of the different generations of satellite-based sensors. Snow models represent a complementary tool to remote sensing for snow cover monitoring, being able to fill in temporal and spatial data gaps where a lack of observations exist. This study utilized three optical remote sensing datasets and two snow models with overlapping periods of data coverage to investigate the similarities and discrepancies in snow cover estimates over Nordenskiöld Land in central Svalbard. High-resolution Sentinel-2 observations were utilized to calibrate a 20-year MODIS snow cover dataset that was subsequently used to correct snow cover fraction estimates made by the lower resolution AVHRR instrument and snow model datasets. A consistent overestimation of snow cover fraction by the lower resolution datasets was found, as well as estimates of the first snow-free day (FSFD) that were, on average, 10–15 days later when compared with the baseline MODIS estimates. Correction of the AVHRR time series produced a significantly slower decadal change in the land-averaged FSFD, indicating that caution should be exercised when interpreting climate-related trends from earlier lower resolution observations. Substantial differences in the dynamic characteristics of snow cover in early autumn were also present between the remote sensing and snow model datasets, which need to be investigated separately. This work demonstrates that the consistency of earlier low spatial resolution snow cover datasets can be improved by using current-day higher resolution datasets.
