[Termes IGN] valeur aberranteRésumé : (Auteur) Image matching is a basic task in the field of photogrammetry and remote sensing. By using the advantages of the Delaunay triangulation, this paper proposes a novel image matching method. First, neighboring structures of randomly distributed feature points are formed with the assistance of the Delaunay triangulation and its corresponding graph, and the image planes are simultaneously divided into patches of near-regular triangles. Second, two constraints, a photometric constraint and a geometric constraint, are implemented based on the constructed neighboring structures, which incorporate the hierarchical elimination and left-right checking strategies to deliver the influences of outliers on the decision of inliers and ensure the high precision of the final matches. The former utilizes a line descriptor as a second-order photometric constraint, and the latter adopts the spatial angular order (SAO) to achieve a geometric constraint for the calculation of dissimilarity scores between correspondences. In addition, with the constraints between triangles of the refined Delaunay triangulation and its corresponding graph, a match expansion is designed to exploit as many inliers as possible. Finally, a reliable image matching algorithm is proposed by sequentially executing the three constraints for outlier elimination and match expansion. Under comprehensive analysis and comparison with five state-of-the-art algorithms, the performance of the proposed method is verified by using both rigid and non-rigid datasets. The experimental results demonstrate that the Delaunay triangulation is sufficient to construct neighboring structures for the implementation of local photometric and geometric constraints, and the proposed method can achieve good performance in terms of the precision, recall and number of inliers, and provide reliable matches for stereo image pairs with both rigid and non-rigid transformations. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) Dense stereo matching plays a key role in 3D reconstruction. The capability of using deep learning in the stereo matching of remote sensing data is currently uncertain. This article investigated the application of deep learning–based stereo methods in aerial image series and proposed a deep learning–based multi-view dense matching framework. First, we applied three typical convolutional neural network models, MC-CNN, GC-Net, and DispNet, to aerial stereo pairs and compared the results with those of the SGM and a commercial software, SURE. Second, on different data sets, the generalization ability of each network is evaluated by using direct transfer learning with models pretrained on other data sets and by fine-tuning with a small number of target training data. Third, we present a deep learning–based multi-view dense matching framework where the multi-view geometry is introduced to further refine matching results. Three sets of aerial images as the main data sets and two open-source sets of street images as auxiliary data sets are used for testing. Experiments show that, first, the performance of deep learning–based stereo methods is slightly better than traditional methods. Second, both the GC-Net and the MC-CNN have demonstrated good generalization ability and can obtain satisfactory results on aerial images using a pretrained model on several available stereo benchmarks. Third, multi-view geometry constraints can further improve the performance of deep learning–based methods, which is better than that of the multi-view–based SGM and SURE. [Vedettes matières IGN] Inventaire forestierRésumé : (Auteur) Errors in individual tree detection and delineation affect diameter distribution predictions based on crown attributes extracted from the detected trees. We develop a methodology for circumventing these problems. The method is based on matching cumulative distribution functions of field measured tree diameter distributions and crown radii distributions extracted from airborne laser scanning data through individual tree detection presented by Vauhkonen and Mehtätalo (2015). In this study, empirical distribution functions and a monotonic, nonlinear model curve are introduced. Tree crown radius distribution produced by individual tree detection is corrected by a method taking into account that all trees cannot be detected. The evaluation is based on the ability of the developed model sequence to predict quadratic mean diameter and total basal area. The studied data consists of 36 field plots in a typical boreal managed forest area in eastern Finland. The suggested enhancements to the model sequence produce improved results in most of the test cases. Most notably, in leave-one-out cross-validation experiments the modified models improve RMSE of basal area 13% in the full data and RMSE of quadratic mean diameter and basal area 69% and 11%, respectively, in pure pine plots. Better modeling of the crown radius distribution and improved matching between crown radii and stem diameters add the operational premises of the full distribution matching. [Termes IGN] texturageRésumé : (Auteur) Thermal image data are widely used to assess the insulation quality of buildings and to detect thermal leakages. In our approach, we merge terrestrial thermal image data and 3D point clouds to perform thermal texture mapping for building facades. Since geo-referencing data of a hand-held thermal camera is usually not available in such applications, registration between thermal images and a 3D point cloud (for instance generated from RGB image data by structure-from-motion techniques) is essential. In our approach, thermal image data registration is conducted in four steps: First, another point cloud is generated from the thermal image data. Next, a coarse registration between thermal point cloud and RGB point cloud is performed using the fast global registration (FGR) algorithm. The best corresponding thermal-RGB image pairs are acquired by picking up the lowest Euclidean distance between the exterior orientation parameters of thermal images and transformed exterior orientation parameters of RGB images. Subsequently, radiation-invariant feature transform (RIFT), normalized barycentric coordinate system (NBCS) and random sample consensus (RANSAC) are employed to extract reliable matching features on thermal-RGB image pairs. Afterwards, a fine registration is performed by mono-plotting of the RGB image, followed by image resection of the thermal image. Finally, in terms of texture mapping algorithms, in order to remove the blur effects caused by small misalignments for different candidate images, a global image pose refinement approach, which aims to minimize the temperature disagreements provided by different images for the same object points, is proposed. In addition, in order to ensure high geometric and radiant accuracy, camera calibrations are performed. Experiments showed that the proposed method could not only achieve high geometric registration accuracy, but also provide a good radiometric accuracy with RMSE lower than 1.5 °C. [Termes IGN] voxelRésumé : (Auteur) To ensure complete coverage when measuring a large-scale urban area, pairwise registration between point clouds acquired via terrestrial laser scanning or stereo image matching is usually necessary when there is insufficient georeferencing information from additional GNSS and INS sensors. In this paper, we propose a semi-automatic and target-less method for coarse registration of point clouds using geometric constraints of voxel-based 4-plane congruent sets (V4PCS). The planar patches are firstly extracted from voxelized point clouds. Then, the transformation invariant, 4-plane congruent sets are constructed from extracted planar surfaces in each point cloud. Initial transformation parameters between point clouds are estimated via corresponding congruent sets having the highest registration scores in the RANSAC process. Finally, a closed-form solution is performed to achieve optimized transformation parameters by finding all corresponding planar patches using the initial transformation parameters. Experimental results reveal that our proposed method can be effective for registering point clouds acquired from various scenes. A success rate of better than 80% was achieved, with average rotation errors of about 0.5 degrees and average translation errors less than approximately 0.6 m. In addition, our proposed method is more efficient than other baseline methods when using the same hardware and software configuration conditions.
