[Termes IGN] occupation du solRésumé : (Auteur) Land cover classification has been paramount in the last years. Since the amount of information acquired by satellite on-board imaging systems has increased, there is a need for automatic tools that can tackle such problem. Despite the fact that one can find several works in the literature, we propose a novel methodology for land cover classification by means of the optimum-path forest (OPF) framework, which has never been applied to this context up to date. Experiments were conducted in supervised and unsupervised situations against some state-of-the-art pattern recognition techniques, such as support vector machines, Bayesian classifier, k-means, and mean shift. We had shown that supervised OPF can outperform such approaches, being much faster than all. In regard to clustering techniques, all classifiers have achieved similar results. [Termes IGN] points homologuesRésumé : (auteur) Historical photographs become widely used in geographical and environmental applications. Their enhancement involves converting them into georeferenced data, such as orthoimages or digital models. However no ground control points are available unlike in current image processing, and many problems such as image noise, landscape modifications, perspective distortion and unknown sensor calibration prevent automatic tie-point retrieval with current orthoimages. That is why photograph georeferencing remains a manual and time-consuming task. A novel method is presented in this paper to register photographs with current topographic database using line feature matching. Indeed, geometrical considerations only let avoid high radiometric difference issues when dealing with current orthoimages. Besides topographic database use lets selecting stable through time features, such as road network and historical buildings. A multi-scale approach allows very coarse georeferencing initialization, which can be set manually by a minimum number of ground control points per image set. At each scale an iterative processing improves the line matching and the registration model estimation at the same time. Finally, building integration makes registration more reliable for off-ground objects. Results are promising as georeferencing is much improved and its estimation converges in all test cases. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser terrestreRésumé : (Auteur) This paper proposes an automatic method for registering terrestrial laser scans in terms of robustness and accuracy. The proposed method uses spatial curves as matching primitives to overcome the limitations of registration methods based on points, lines, or patches as primitives. These methods often have difficulty finding correspondences between the scanned point clouds of freeform surfaces (e.g., statues, cultural heritage). The proposed method first clusters visually prominent points selected according to their associated geometric curvatures to extract crest lines which describe the shape characteristics of point clouds. Second, a deformation energy model is proposed to measure the shape similarity of these crest lines to select the correct matching-curve pairs. Based on these pairs, good initial orientation parameters can be obtained, resulting in fine registration. Experiments were undertaken to evaluate the robustness and accuracy of the proposed method, demonstrating a reliable and stable solution for accurately registering complex scenes without good initial alignment. [Termes IGN] triangulation de DelaunayRésumé : (auteur) Detection and characterisation of spatial patterns is crucial for cartographic generalisation since it entails preserving the patterns as much as possible within scale limits. Building alignments are commonly confronted patterns in the topographic maps/databases. They are perceptually recognised in accordance with relevant Gestalt factors, namely proximity, similarity, common orientation and continuity. This study is concentrated on how to characterise building alignments detected by automated or manual methods. To this end, new measures based on Delaunay triangulation and regression line/curve are established to correspond to the Gestalt factors. The relationship between the measures and Gestalt principles has been illustrated with a decision tree. An index value was computed by total sum of measures’ values to compare and order alignments from quality aspect. Additionally, a supervised classification was performed with C4.5 algorithm thus a decision tree was obtained to be able to both associate the quality categories with the measure values and automatically assign alignments into a quality class. The findings demonstrate that proposed measures are substantially effective for representing Gestalt factors. The proposed methods can potentially enhance and ease the characterisation of building alignments in topographic map generalization. [Termes IGN] précision de localisationRésumé : (auteur) In this paper, we use control methodologies based on lines to detect the type of positional errors which affect a spatial database (SDB) and more concretely the presence of systematic errors. The methodology involves determination of the displacement vectors between the lines and a graphical and statistical study of the components obtained. The graphical analysis enables the detection of spatial patterns of displacement; the presence or absence of systematic errors is then confirmed by statistical analysis. We have applied this method to detect systematic errors on a set of lines with introduced displacements, rotations and scale changes. The results show the viability of the method. All the bias effects introduced were detected, both qualitatively and quantitatively. The detection method has the potential to minimize the effects of such displacements in the SDBs.
