[Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) Most of the existing 3D indoor object classification methods have shown impressive achievements on the assumption that all objects are oriented in the upward direction with respect to the ground. To release this assumption, great effort has been made to handle arbitrarily oriented objects in terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) point clouds. As one of the most promising solutions, anchor-based graphs can be used to classify freely oriented objects. However, this approach suffers from missing anchor detection since valid detection relies heavily on the completeness of an anchor’s point clouds and is sensitive to missing data. This paper presents an anchor-based graph method to detect and classify arbitrarily oriented indoor objects. The anchors of each object are extracted by the structurally adjacent relationship among parts instead of the parts’ geometric metrics. In the case of adjacency, an anchor can be correctly extracted even with missing parts since the adjacency between an anchor and other parts is retained irrespective of the area extent of the considered parts. The best graph matching is achieved by finding the optimal corresponding node-pairs in a super-graph with fully connecting nodes based on maximum likelihood. The performances of the proposed method are evaluated with three indicators (object precision, object recall and object F1-score) in seven datasets. The experimental tests demonstrate the effectiveness of dealing with TLS point clouds, RGBD point clouds and Panorama RGBD point clouds, resulting in performance scores of approximately 0.8 for object precision and recall and over 0.9 for chair precision and table recall. [Termes IGN] pictogrammeRésumé : (auteur) In this work, realistically drawn objects are identified on digital maps by convolutional neural networks. For the first two experiments, 6200 images were retrieved from Pinterest. While alternating image input options, two binary classifiers based on Xception and InceptionResNetV2 were trained to separate maps and pictorial maps. Results showed that the accuracy is 95–97% to distinguish maps from other images, whereas maps with pictorial objects are correctly classified at rates of 87–92%. For a third experiment, bounding boxes of 3200 sailing ships were annotated in historic maps from different digital libraries. Faster R-CNN and RetinaNet were compared to determine the box coordinates, while adjusting anchor scales and examining configurations for small objects. A resulting average precision of 32% was obtained for Faster R-CNN and of 36% for RetinaNet. Research outcomes are relevant for trawling map images on the Internet and for enhancing the advanced search of digital map catalogues. [Termes IGN] surface imperméableRésumé : (Auteur) The urgency of creating appropriate, high-resolution data products such as impervious cover information has increased as cities face rapid growth as well as climate change and other environmental challenges. This work explores the use of fully convolutional neural networks (FCNNs )—specifically UNet with a ResNet-152 encoder—in mapping impervious surfaces at the pixel level from WorldView-2 in a mixed urban/residential environment. We investigate three-, four-, and eight-band multispectral inputs to the FCNN. Resulting maps are promising in both qualitative and quantitative assessment when compared to automated land use/land cover products. Accuracy was assessed by F1 and average precision (AP) scores, as well as receiver operating characteristic curves, with area under the curve (AUC ) used as an additional accuracy metric. The four-band model shows the highest average test-set accuracies (F1, AP, and AUC of 0.709, 0.82, and 0.807, respectively), with higher AP and AUC than the automated land use/land cover products, indicating the utility of the blue-green-red-infrared channels for the FCNN. Improved performance was seen in residential areas, with worse performance in more densely developed areas.
