[Termes IGN] jeu de données localiséesRésumé : (auteur) Recently, many remote-sensing datasets providing features of individual fire events from gridded global burned area products have been released. Although very promising, these datasets still lack a quantitative estimate of their accuracy with respect to historical ground-based fire datasets. Here, we compared three state-of-the-art remote-sensing datasets (RSDs; Fire Atlas, FRY, and GlobFire) with a harmonized ground-based dataset (GBD) compiled by fire agencies monitoring systems across the southwestern Mediterranean Basin (2005–2015). We assessed the agreement between the RSDs and the GBD with respect to both burned area (BA) and number of fires (NF). RSDs and the GBD were aggregated at monthly and 0.25∘ resolutions, considering different individual fire size thresholds ranging from 1 to 500 ha. Our results show that all datasets were highly correlated in terms of monthly BA and NF, but RSDs severely underestimated both (by 38 % and 96 %, respectively) when considering all fires > 1 ha. The agreement between RSDs and the GBD was strongly dependent on individual fire size and strengthened when increasing the fire size threshold, with fires > 100 ha denoting a higher correlation and much lower error (BA 10 %; NF 35 %). The agreement was also higher during the warm season (May to October) in particular across the regions with greater fire activity such as the northern Iberian Peninsula. The Fire Atlas displayed a slightly better performance with a lower relative error, although uncertainty in the gridded BA product largely outpaced uncertainties across the RSDs. Overall, our findings suggest a reasonable agreement between RSDs and the GBD for fires larger than 100 ha, but care is needed when examining smaller fires at regional scales. [Termes IGN] WebSIGRésumé : (auteur) Integration of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Geographic Information System (GIS) can benefit both the Architecture, Engineering and Construction/Facility Management (AEC/FM) domain, and the geospatial industry. For GIS, BIM is a promising source of three-dimensional (3D) building information that can be used in the study of smart city, green building, big data, etc. The underlying data transformation from Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) to shapefile enables GIS to use the rich building information. However, this transformation is difficult due to the different modelling methods used by IFC and shapefile. IFC generally represents 3D objects using boundary representation (Brep), swept solid, constructive solid geometry (CSG), clipping and mapped representation, while shapefile only uses Brep. In addition, the use of different coordinate systems also contributes to the geometry transformation issue. Among all the solid modelling methods used by IFC, Brep and swept solid are the most often used two methods. Compared with Brep, the transformation of swept solid is more challenging as each type of profile for swept solid defined in IFC has to be properly interpreted and converted. This paper develops algorithms to interpret the commonly used profiles of swept solid for the transformation of IFC into shapefile. A bridge model is used to validate the proposed method, and a Web GIS-based bridge management system is developed to demonstrate a possible usage of the transformed shapefile model. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (auteur) [introduction] Maps are composed of spatially related geographic objects. Spatial relations are key information for human as they support the description of relative locations: the house is to the east of the city centre, near the interchange, or at the end of the path. Consequently, preserving these spatial relations is important during map generalisation. For example, building typification is a generalisation operation that seeks to reduce the quantity of building while preserving relation between and within homogeneous buildings groups (Regnauld, 2001). Building or road patterns are remarkable distributions of elements in the map from which high-level concepts and semantics (e.g. landuse types and urban morphology) can be inferred. Such patterns can be characterized by spatial relations (e.g. proximity, similarity and continuity of these elements) and hence are visually easy to identify by a human. To identify these patterns automatically is important for automated map generalisation (Christophe and Ruas, 2002). However, it remains challenging to devise algorithms that can resemble the human level performance. The goal of this paper is to illustrate the potential of graph convolutional networks (GCN) for the identification of patterns and relations important for map generalisation with two use cases: building patterns detection, and road segment selection. Both tasks require some degree of understanding of the spatial relations between map objects. Hence, our experiments constitute a first step in exploring the capability of deep neural network for learning representations of spatial relations.
