[Termes IGN] solideRésumé : (Auteur) The goal of this research is to develop a 3D topological structure to represent a 3D space partition with validation functionality and support for conversions from topological to geometrical primitives. Several 3D topological structures have been presented in the past, mainly by researchers. The technical (implementation) model developed in this paper is based on the conceptual model of the ISO 19107 spatial schema' standard and consists of four topological primitives: node, edge, face, and volume, which are related to each other via their (co)boundary relationships. In our setting, only linear primitives (no curves) are supported and no isolated and dangling primitives are allowed. In our model, the rings, the shells, and the orientation play key roles within the topological structure and the functions that implement the geometrical realization. There was no formal definition of a valid 3D topological structure available and this paper presents such a definition, which is the main novel contribution. This definition is presented in three levels, where at every next level the definition is further refined such that finally a set of rules is proposed, which can be implemented unambiguously. In order to validate a 3D topological structure, the involved volumes must be valid as well as the whole structure, which means the relationships between the volumes. The rules for a valid structure have been implemented on top of Oracle Spatial and tested with artificial and real-world test data. [Termes IGN] WebSIGRésumé : (Auteur) Sea ice data has significant scientific value for climate, environmental impact and engineering studies leading to the construction of facilities in Arctic waters, as well as to support tourism and fishing planning. Large collections of such data are acquired, compiled, produced and maintained by national and international agencies such as the Canadian Ice Service (CIS). Some of these data collections have been made available online. However, current Internet-based sea ice data dissemination practices do not foster easy access to and use of the data, especially given the amount of the archived sea ice data and the nature of their spatial changes and high temporal variations. This article reports a research effort in developing a web-based geographical information system (GIS) that facilitates the access and use of the historical sea ice data. The system provides online access, exploration, visualization, and analysis of the archived data, mostly in the form of ice charts, within a web-based GIS. The results from a prototype development indicate that web GIS, developed using Rich Internet Application (RIA) technologies, provides added values in serving sea ice data and suggests that such a system can better accommodate more advanced sea ice data access and analysis tools. [Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (Auteur) Enormous quantities of trajectory data are collected from many sources, such as GPS devices and mobile phones, as sequences of spatio-temporal points. These data can be used in many application domains such as traffic management, urban planning, tourism, bird migration, and so on. Raw trajectory data, as generated by mobile devices have very little or no semantics, and in most applications a higher level of abstraction is needed to exploit these data for decision making. Although several different methods have been proposed so far for trajectory querying and mining, there are no software tools to help the end user with semantic trajectory data analysis. In this article we present a software architecture for semantic trajectory data mining as well as the first software prototype to enrich trajectory data with both semantic information and data mining. As a prototype we extend the Weka data mining toolkit with the module Weka-STPM, which is interoperable with databases constructed under OGC specifications. We tested Weka-STPM with real geographic databases, and trajectory data stored under the Postgresql/PostGIS DBMS.
