[Termes IGN] web mappingRésumé : (Auteur) Sometimes map projection designers need to create equal-area projections to best fill the projections’ purposes. However, unlike for conformal projections, few transformations have been described that can be applied to equal-area projections to develop new equal-area projections. Here, I survey area-preserving transformations, giving examples of their applications and proposing an efficient way of deploying an equal-area system for raster-based Web mapping. Together, these transformations provide a toolbox for the map projection designer working in the area-preserving domain. [Termes IGN] OpenStreetMapRésumé : (Auteur) Audio files entered cartography about 25 years ago. Since the mid-1990s, several examples of audiovisual maps have been created and published. These maps cover a diverse range of applications. In terms of the sound elements implemented, four characteristic variants were mainly used: abstract sounds/sound sequences, language recordings, and music and recordings/simulations of the real soundscape. To built audiovisual maps technically, several tools of animation software solutions were intensively explored. The rising importance of the World Wide Web also increased the demand for new and modern web-based approaches of multimedia cartography. One of the core technologies of the Internet is the programming language JavaScript (JS). The language is often associated with the so-called libraries which are applied programming packages pre-written for particular purposes. In cartography, one of the most popular and widely used JS libraries is leaflet.js. This open-source library is known for its simplicity and, meanwhile, it also supports a straightforward integration of multimedia content, such as audio files. It also teams up with HTML5 and CSS3. This paper intends to give a workflow focused on how to create individual audiovisual web mapping applications based on the contemporary options offered by leaflet.js. [Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (Auteur) The simplification of 3D building models to effectively reduce model complexity and improve rendering efficiency is an important component of 3D GIS. To reduce the data volume while preserving the model appearance, this article proposes a novel simplification method for complex 3D building models. Texture discontinuities are addressed by developing a new data model that records the mapping relation between the texture coordinates of each vertex and its neighboring triangles. The surface mesh of the building model is then segmented into regions, guided by topology and appearance. Finally, the mesh segmentation information is used to derive an improved error metric that considers both geometric and texture errors, and the texture coordinates are adjusted after each simplification operation. A series of comparative experiments alongside traditional methods demonstrates that our approach achieves a good balance between geometric fidelity and texture preservation, and produces simplified 3D building models with better visual quality. [Termes IGN] trajet (mobilité)Résumé : (Auteur) This article presents an accurate and robust visual indoor localisation approach that not only is infrastructure-free, but also avoids accumulation error by taking advantage of (1) the widespread ubiquity of mobile devices with cameras and (2) the availability of 3D building models for most modern buildings. Localisation is performed by matching image sequences captured by a camera, with a 3D model of the building in a model-based visual tracking framework. Comprehensive evaluation of the approach with a photo-realistic synthetic dataset shows the robustness of the localisation approach under challenging conditions. Additionally, the approach is tested and evaluated on real data captured by a smartphone. The results of the experiments indicate that a localisation accuracy better than 10 cm can be achieved by using this approach. Since localisation errors do not accumulate the proposed approach is suitable for indoor localisation tasks for long periods of time and augmented reality applications, without requiring any local infrastructure. A MATLAB implementation can be found on https://github.com/debaditya-unimelb/BIM-Tracker.
