[Termes IGN] théorie des graphesRésumé : (Auteur) The conventional raster-based least-cost path technique, in which the connectivity graph is constructed by treating each raster cell as a node and linking each node to its adjacent neighbors, has been widely used to determine optimum paths in space. Unfortunately, paths calculated with this method are subject to distortions that stem from the imposed node-link structure. Due to the distortions, the calculated paths may be longer than the true optimum paths in continuous space, and because of this, they may also look highly unrealistic when displayed on a map. This study examines how the quality of the raster-based paths can be improved by using larger connectivity patterns on the one hand, and placing nodes on the sides of the cells of a raster instead of at their centers, on the other. In addition, the utility of the quadtree structure is examined. The different methods are evaluated against three different datasets using the cost distance of the calculated paths and processing times as evaluation criteria. The results indicate that raster-based paths can be improved by using the evaluated techniques, although the degree of improvement is also dependent on the properties of the underlying cost raster. [Termes IGN] visualisation de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) Automated 3-dimensional modeling pipelines include 3D scanning, registration, data abstraction, and visualization. All steps in such a pipeline require the processing of a massive amount of 3D data, due to the ability of current 3D scanners to sample environments with a high density. The increasing sampling rates make it easy to acquire billions of spatial data points. This paper presents algorithms and data structures for handling these data. We propose an efficient octree to store and compress 3D data without loss of precision. We demonstrate its usage for an exchange file format, fast point cloud visualization, sped-up 3D scan matching, and shape detection algorithms. We evaluate our approach using typical terrestrial laser scans. [Termes IGN] théorie des graphesRésumé : (auteur) This paper addresses the creation and maintenance of partitions of city surfaces for mapping and transportation applications. It proposes a hierarchical spatial surface partitioning, encoding the spatial partition with a 2D arrangement and structuring a generic hierarchy of semantic objects with a directed acyclic graph (DAG), in which the leaves point to the partition elements (polygonal regions, line strings, points). Semantic objects such as buildings, sidewalks and roads are described by grouping other objects and partition elements with their semantic relationships. In the proposed generic data model, geometry and spatial relationships of the semantic objects are respectively described by the geometry and topology of the planar partition. The proposed geometric data structure for creating and maintaining this partition is a 2D arrangement. In addition, the hierarchical object model encodes the thematic and semantic relationships between the objects. Besides the data model, methods and algorithms are discussed for leveraging existing vector datasets to create and maintain such partitions. These partitions are then fit to further processing and analysis using computational geometry and graph theory algorithms. For this purpose, three application-wise generic algorithms were integrated into our system called Streetmaker: two skeleton operators for centerline generation (straight skeleton and medial axis) and connectivity graphs for itinerary calculations. Moreover, specific algorithms can be integrated into Streetmaker for specific applications. We demonstrated an example usage of this framework for generating static obstacle avoiding pedestrian network graphs. The representation of the network graph and the process used to generate it, can be considered as the second contribution of our work besides the proposed data model. [Termes IGN] théorème de BayesRésumé : (éditeur) Bayesian and Frequentist Regression Methods provides a modern account of both Bayesian and frequentist methods of regression analysis. Many texts cover one or the other of the approaches, but this is the most comprehensive combination of Bayesian and frequentist methods that exists in one place. The two philosophical approaches to regression methodology are featured here as complementary techniques, with theory and data analysis providing supplementary components of the discussion. In particular, methods are illustrated using a variety of data sets. The majority of the data sets are drawn from biostatistics but the techniques are generalizable to a wide range of other disciplines. While the philosophy behind each approach is discussed, the book is not ideological in nature and an emphasis is placed on practical application. It is shown that, in many situations, careful application of the respective approaches can lead to broadly similar conclusions. To use this text, the reader requires a basic understanding of calculus and linear algebra, and introductory courses in probability and statistical theory. The book is based on the author's experience teaching a graduate sequence in regression methods. The book website contains all of the code to reproduce all of the analyses and figures contained in the book. Note de contenu : 1- Inferential Approches
