[Termes IGN] Rouge, merRésumé : (auteur) Developing an accurate Lowest Astronomical Tide (LAT) in a continuous form is essential for many maritime applications as it can be employed to develop an accurate continuous vertical control datum for hydrographic surveys applications and to produce accurate dynamic electronic navigation charts for safe maritime navigation by mariners. The LAT can be developed in a continuous (surface) using an estimated LAT surface model from the hydrodynamic ocean model along with coastal discrete LAT point values derived from tide gauges data sets to provide the corrected LAT surface model. In this paper, an accurate LAT surface model was developed for the Red Sea case study using a Maximum Likelihood Estimator (MLE) with multiple hydrodynamic ocean models hybridization, namely, WebTide, FES2014, DTU10, and EOT11a models. It was found that the developed optimal hybrid LAT model using MLE with multiple hydrodynamic ocean models hybridization ranges from 0.1 m to 1.63 m, associated with about 2.4 cm of uncertainty at a 95% confidence level in the Red Sea case study area. To validate the accuracy of the developed model, the comparison was made between the optimal hybrid LAT model developed from multiple hydrodynamic ocean models hybridization using the MLE method with the individual LAT models estimated from individual WebTide, FES2014, DTU10, or EOT11a ocean models based on the associated uncertainties estimated at a 95% confidence level. It was found that the optimal hybrid LAT model accuracy is superior to the individual LAT models estimated from individual ocean models with an improvement of about 50% in average, based on the estimated uncertainties. The importance of developing optimal LAT surface model using the MLE method with multiple hydrodynamic ocean models hybridization in this paper with few centimeters level of uncertainty can lead to accurate continuous vertical datum estimation that is essential for many maritime applications. These challenges arise due to the fundamental difficulties of correction and land contamination in the foot print, which result in rejection of these data near the coast. Several studies have been carried out to extend these data towards the coast. Over the Red Sea, altimetry data consist of gaps, which extend to about 30–50 km from the coast. Two methods are used for processing and extending Jason-2 satellite altimetry sea level anomalies (SLAs) towards the Red Sea coast; Fourier Series Model (FSM), and the polynomial sum of sine model (SSM). FSM model technique uses Fourier series and statistical analysis reflects strong relationship with both the observation and AVISO data, with strong and positive correlation. The second prediction technique, SSM model, depends on the polynomial sum of sine, and does not reflect any relationship with the observations and AVISO data close to the coast and the correlation coefficient (CC) is weak and negative. The FSM model output results in SLA data significantly better and more accurate than the SSM model output. [Termes IGN] série temporelleRésumé : (Auteur) We present new measurements of mass evolution for the Mediterranean, Black, Red, and Caspian Seas as determined by the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) GRACE time-variable global gravity mascon solutions. These new solutions are compared to sea surface altimetry measurements of sea level anomalies with steric corrections applied. To assess their accuracy, the GRACE- and altimetry-derived solutions are applied to the set of forward models used by GSFC for processing the GRACE Level-1B datasets, with the resulting inter-satellite range-acceleration residuals providing a useful metric for analyzing solution quality. We also present a differential correction strategy to calibrate the time series of mass change for each of the seas by establishing the strong linear relationship between differences in the forward modeled mass and the corresponding range-acceleration residuals between the two solutions. These calibrated time series of mass change are directly determined from the range-acceleration residuals, effectively providing regionally-tuned GRACE solutions without the need to form and invert normal equations. Finally, the calibrated GRACE time series are discussed and combined with the steric-corrected sea level anomalies to provide new measurements of the unmodeled steric variability for each of the seas over the span of the GRACE observation record. We apply ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) to adaptively sort the mass and steric components of sea level anomalies into seasonal, non-seasonal, and long-term temporal scales. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Syn-rift Neogene deposits, composed of a 650 m thick volcano-sedimentary succession, crop out at the foot of the escarpment close to the village of Dogali, near Massawa (NE Eritrea). These deposits are related to the first stage of the Red Sea spreading. This work aims at mapping in detail this succession using remote sensing optical images integrated with ancillary data and ground truth information in a Geographic Information System. Optical images are usually effective in lithological discrimination in arid environment and fill the requirements of low-cost, rapid and accurate regional mapping. Photo-interpretation ofLandsat Thematic Mapper image was carried out in a test area of 500 km2 and Quickbird satellite images were used to detail a subset of 50 km2. The satellite images have been processed through radiometric enhancement, principal components analysis and band ratios. Ancillary data and evidences from field surveys supported the photo-interpretation. Rock samples, photos and observations collected during previous test campaigns provided interpre-tation keys of the satellite images. A preliminary scheme of the lithological units has been drawn from the Landsat image. The Proterozoic metamor-phic complex of the basement and the sedimentary fades of Lower Dogali Formation were mapped at scale ] :80,000. Evidences of laterites and base-ment weathering were also detected. A detailed analysis of sedimentary fades of the Lower Dogali Formation was then carried out using the Quickbird images at scale 1:10,000. The results of the photointerpretation of remotely sensed data confirm that the deposition of the Lower Dogali Formation is linked to the first stage of the Red Sea spreading and main considerations on the mecha--nisms and the evolution of different stages have been underlined. Although the next field campaign is going to endorse the remotely sensed data, these preliminary results give evidence of the contribu-tion of satellite images to the knowledge of the geo-logical setting of a poorly mapped area in arid environment.
