[Termes IGN] transformation rapide de FourierRésumé : (auteur) A high-resolution gravimetric geoid model for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia area was determined. A data set of 459,848 land gravity, 80,632 shipborne marine gravity data, DTU17 altimetry gravity model, and XGM2019e global geopotential model. The computation strategy followed for modelling of the gravimetric geoid is based on the Remove-Compute-Restore with Residual Terrain Model reduction and the 1D- Fast Fourier Transform approach technique. The geoid heights have been determined by using the Stokes integral with Wong–Gore modification. The accuracy of the resulting geoid models was evaluated by comparing them with 5385 GPS/levelling points. The geoid accuracy over all the kingdom is better than 11 cm in STD sense and the comparison in sub-areas obtained accuracy range from 2.8 to 11.9 cm according to the density of gravity observations. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) Digital 3D capture and reliable reproduction of architectural features is the first and most difficult step towards defining a heritage BIM. Three-dimensional digital survey technologies, such as TLS and photogrammetry, enable experts to scan buildings with a new level of detail. Challenges in the tracing of parametric objects in a TLS point cloud include the reconstruction of occluded parts, measurement of uncertainties relevant to surface reflectivity, and edge detection and location. In addition to image-based techniques being considered cost effective, highly flexible, and efficient in producing a high-quality 3D textured model, they also provide a better interpretation of surface linear characteristics. This article addresses an architecture survey workflow using photogrammetry and TLS to optimize a point cloud that is sufficient for a reliable HBIM. Fusion-based workflows were proposed during the recording of two heritage sites—the Matbouli House Museum in Historic Jeddah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site; and Asfan Castle. In the Matbouli House Museum building, which is rich with complex architectural features, multi-sensor recording was implemented at different resolutions and levels of detail. The TLS data were used to reconstruct the basic shape of the main structural elements, while the imagery’s superior radiometric data and accessibility were effectively used to enhance the TLS point clouds for improving the geometry, data interpretation, and parametric tracing of irregular objects in the facade. Furthermore, in the workflow that is considered to be the ragged terrain of the Castle of Asfan, here, the TLS point cloud was supplemented with UAV data in the upper building zones where the shadow data originated. Both datasets were registered using an ICP algorithm to scale the photogrammetric data and define their actual position in the construction system. The hybrid scans were imported and processed in the BIM environment. The building components were segmented and classified into regular and irregular surfaces, in order to perform detailed building information modeling of the architectural elements. The proposed workflows demonstrated an appropriate performance in terms of reliable and complete BIM mapping in the complex structures. [Termes IGN] zone arideRésumé : (Auteur) This article explores using satellite images to monitor spatiotemporal variations in temperature related to urban form. Land surface temperatures (LST) were estimated from Landsat images (1986–2016) and the land cover and urban form LST were extracted by using samples representing different urban forms/cover types. A transect of 20 km was taken across the city to derive the LST across the different land cover types. Urban heat island index and statistical analysis were carried out to understand the influence of urban form and cover on changes in surface temperature. The results are compared with temperature regimes of an industrial city (Yanbu) to depict differences in the two cities. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) shows variations, at 0.01 level of significance, in the LST values of the city centre, high-rise, low-density, vegetation, desert and industrial land-use types. The outcome of the study is valuable for decision-makers in achieving sustainable urban development. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (auteur) Rainwater harvesting (RWH), which is the collection and storage of rainwater for multiple purposes, is gaining recognition in water supply issues. Selection of harvesting sites is the most critical factor in RWH projects. The objective of this study is to develop a suitability map of RWH sites for a basin in Saudi Arabia. The method used, constitute the identification and assigning weights to criteria, and generation of suitability map using Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). Eight appropriate criteria were considered. Results showed that excellent and good sites covered about 40.6% of the total available sites. Sensitivity analysis showed that the curve number (CN), slope, rainfall and soil were the most influential criteria. The maximum increase in the percentage area of excellent sites was 92% while good and moderate classes decreased by 43 and 53%, respectively. The developed suitability maps provide useful information to the decision maker for use in water management. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (auteur) The main theme of this research is the development of a new hybrid method for change detection of land use and land cover (LULC). LULC change detection is one of most widely used applications of remote sensing. This study used data from two different optical sensors, Landsat-8 images and Sentinel-2A images. Given the newly developed capabilities of these remote sensing satellites, it was necessary to devise appropriate techniques to realise the benefits that they offer. Therefore, three effective change detection methods have been tested, comprehensively analysed, and used to inform the design and development of a new hybrid method of change detection. The studied change detection methods were change vector analysis (CVA), multi-index integrated change analysis (MIICA), and the comprehensive change detection method (CCDM). Case studies were conducted in two regions, Bristol (United Kingdom) and Hail (Saudi Arabia), to provide sufficient variety of inputs to enable the response of more LULC varieties to be recorded. Finally, the Coordination of Information on the Environment (Corine) land cover scheme was used to identify land cover types and LULC changes. In the study area of Bristol, the new hybrid change detection method achieved an overall accuracy of 90% and 0.81 kappa, while the results for the study area of Hail were 74% overall accuracy and 0.40 kappa. The change detection results obtained by the new hybrid method constitute a significant improvement over the implementation of the existing CVA, MIICA and CCDM methods at the two study areas while using Landsat-8 and Sentinel-2A images.
