[Termes IGN] Wide Area Augmentation SystemRésumé : (Auteur) Le service de DGPS à l'échelle du Canada, le CDGPS, a récemment été lancé pour fournir des corrections de GPS exactes et fiables pour le positionnement au mètre près et à mieux de 1 mètre près à travers le Canada. Ce service de DGPS à zone étendue (WADGPS) mise sur le Système canadien de contrôle actif (CACS), qui comprend douze stations de référence GPS continuellement en opération. Les observations GPS de ce réseau étendu sont utilisées pour modéliser les sources d'erreurs corrélées au Canada et au-delà de ses frontières. Le service assure l'obtention à exactitudes de positionnement de niveaux constants à tous les emplacements à l'intérieur de la région couverte. Les corrections GPS sont ensuite transmises à deux satellites MSAT aux fins de transmission en temps réel aux utilisateurs à travers une grande variété de segments d'usagers. Les corrections reçues sont ensuite transformées en corrections localisées RTCM SC-104 qui peuvent être consignées dans la plupart des récepteurs GPS standards. Cet article évalue la performance du CDGPS à l'aide d'une comparaison avec deux autres services de WADGPS, le WAAS et OmniSTAR, en termes d'exactitude réalisable et d'âge des corrections. Des essais en parallèle ont été réalisés en utilisant des technologies de récepteurs GPS semblables pour déterminer les exactitudes de positionnement indépendantes des sources d'erreurs dépendantes des récepteurs. Les divergences dans les exactitudes dérivées pour les services de WADGPS sont imputées aux différents modèles d'erreurs et réseaux de référence utilisés dans chaque système. Les résultats globaux démontrent que les systèmes OmniSTAR et WAAS fournissent des exactitudes verticales RMS (de valeurs quadratiques moyennes) d'environ un mètre comparativement à 1,3 mètre pour le CDGPS. Le WAAS fournit des exactitudes RMS meilleures que 0,5 m dans chacune des composantes horizontales, ce qui est semblable aux exactitudes fournies par le système CDGPS. The initiative is expected to offer significant benefits for surveyors, mappers and contruction workers, as well as other civilian application including aviation, marine and automobile navigation, agriculture and asset management. Increased accuracy and robustness of measurements, enhanced productivity and the potential for extensive advances in reciever technology lie just ahead. Focusing on civilian use, the authors give an overview of this government-funded GPS Modernization programme and discuss its impact on the surveying profession. [Termes IGN] modèle d'erreurRésumé : (Auteur) The performance of any navigation systemsis characterized by its accuracy, availability, continuity, and integrity. From a safety point of view, integrity is arguably the most important factor. Without some assurance of a system's integrity, we have no way of knowing whether the navigation information we receive is correct : How are we to know whether a navigation system is actually achieving its advertised accuracy and not misleading us with faulty information ? Although standalone GPS provides a certain level of integrity through self-monitoring in the satellites and signal monitoring by the GPS control segment, it is insufficient for aircraft conducting precision approaches to airport runways.The wide and local area augmentation systems offer a much higher level of integrity than standalone GPS. This is achieved, in part, by the aircraft receiver computing a high-confidence upper bound on its position error from the data it receives from the augmentation signals. As long as the computed error bound is below a preset value, safe navigation is assured with an extremely high level of confidence. However, the error bound is based on the assumption that the errors are distributed according to a normal or Gaussian probability distribution. Unfortunately, the positions determined using corrections from the augmentation systems have errors which do not quite follow such a distribution. The current approach to handling this phenomenon is to overbound the errors with a protection limit which safely accounts for the occasional larger than "normal" errors. Here, is discussed a promising alternative integrity monitoring technique that needs no assumption on the error distribution - a technique that will see a marriage of GPS with the eagerly anticipated Galileo system. The differentially corrected GPS-derived coordinates provided markedly more accurate results than did uncorrected handheld GPS and map-derived GCPs. The rms error value of differentially corrected GPS-derived control points based on second-degree polynomial was in the order of + 3 m. Geometric corrections made with second-degree polynomials, using both the map- and uncorrected handheld GPS-derived control points, yielded rms error values in the order of + 5 m. The results revealed that the uncorrected handheld GPS-derived control points can be a valuable alternative to planimetric control for geometric correction of IRS-1C/D panchromatic imagery with one-pixel size accuracy.
