[Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (Auteur) Image matching has a history of more than 50 years, with the first experiments performed with analogue procedures for cartographic and mapping purposes. The recent integration of computer vision algorithms and photogrammetric methods is leading to interesting procedures which have increasingly automated the entire image-based 3D modelling process. Image matching is one of the key steps in 3D modelling and mapping. This paper presents a critical review and analysis of four dense image-matching algorithms, available as open-source and commercial software, for the generation of dense point clouds. The eight datasets employed include scenes recorded from terrestrial and aerial blocks, acquired with convergent and normal (parallel axes) images, and with different scales. Geometric analyses are reported in which the point clouds produced with each of the different algorithms are compared with one another and also to ground-truth data. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (Auteur) This paper describes a general workflow for the registration of terrestrial radar interferometric data with 3D point clouds derived from terrestrial photogrammetry and structure from motion. After the determination of intrinsic and extrinsic orientation parameters, data obtained by terrestrial radar interferometry were projected on point clouds and then on the initial photographs. Visualisation of slope deformation measurements on photographs provides an easily understandable and distributable information product, especially of inaccessible target areas such as steep rock walls or in rockfall run-out zones. The suitability and error propagation of the referencing steps and final visualisation of four approaches are compared: (a) the classic approach using a metric camera and stereo-image photogrammetry; (b) images acquired with a metric camera, automatically processed using structure from motion; (c) images acquired with a digital compact camera, processed with structure from motion; and (d) a markerless approach, using images acquired with a digital compact camera using structure from motion without artificial ground control points. The usability of the completely markerless approach for the visualisation of high-resolution radar interferometry assists the production of visualisation products for interpretation. [Termes IGN] reconstruction 3D du bâtiRésumé : (Auteur) Buildings are regarded as the most prominent man-made objects: hence, their automatic extraction from aerial and satellite images has attracted the interest of photogrammetric research communities. In this paper, a balloon snake, a well-known active contour model, was developed for the precise extraction of building boundaries. Traditional active contours are highly sensitive to image data and are problematic when building boundaries are weakened, usually due to occlusions. To improve the efficiency of the traditional balloon snake model, a shape-based balloon snake model was introduced where knowledge about the expected geometrical shape of buildings was modelled and applied to the traditional snake representation. Implementation of the proposed algorithm confirmed its efficiency in the precise extraction of building boundaries. Experimental results and the qualitative and quantitative evaluations demonstrate the potential of the proposed shape-based balloon snake model and its superiority over traditional models. [Termes IGN] modélisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) There exist a number of techniques which are used to produce stereo panoramas, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages. In this paper, a new stereo-panorama generating system is presented which uses off-the-shelf stereo cameras. In addition to stereoviewing, the system offers the possibility of making geometric measurements. The benefits of such a system are: (a) overcoming the effects of moving objects in the images; (b) increased automation of matching and stitching; (c) simple geometric information extraction; and (d) equal resolution over the whole stereo panorama. The structure of the system is described, including system implementation, calibration, stereo-panorama generation, georeferencing, co-registration of multiple panoramas and 3D measurements. In addition, an experiment to evaluate the capability of the system in modelling 3D environments is reported. Evaluation results show that the system can produce a suitable 3D panoramic environment for the simultaneous 3D visualisation and measurement of objects, especially in urban areas. [Termes IGN] photographie aérienneRésumé : (Auteur) TerraSAR-X (TSX) has led to a new era for synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging, offering high-resolution (1 m) data that was not previously available from space. The TSX X-band sensor can be operated in three interferometrically compatible imaging modes: Stripmap (SM), high-resolution Spotlight (HS) and ScanSAR. Due to the low resolution of ScanSAR (16 to 30 m), SM and HS images are preferred for resolution-based applications. This paper attempts to validate and compare the digital elevation models (DEMs) derived from TSX SM and HS image pairs. Digital surface models (DSMs) were generated by interferometry in a part of Istanbul with a variety of ground types. These DSMs were converted to DEMs by filtering and then compared with a reference DEM produced from aerial photographs. The quality assessment was performed using advanced analyses concerned with accuracy and morphologic detail. The results of both absolute and relative accuracy analyses clearly reveal that the quality of the TSX HS DEM is better than SM and very consistent with the reference model.
