[Termes IGN] simulation PleiadesRésumé : (Auteur) The Pleiades system developed by the French space agency CNES shall be ready for launch in early 2009. It deals with a new generation of high resolution optical satellites. The great agility of Pleiades satellites with their motion capability in roll, pitch, and heading, will allow new acquisition modes which are impossible with SPOT series satellites. Indeed, the system will be able to perform three-fold stereoscopic colour images of 20km swath and 70cm resolution. Several experimentations and simulations are being carried out in order to verify the ability of the system to fulfill the technical and operational requirements of the map-making processes. Last year, a first study has been carried out on 3D city models production on two small areas from simulated images and with a lot of different contexts. Considering the promising results, studies carry on this year, with more different areas and Pleiades simulation images more realistic. Two other topics have been studied : automatic vegetation detection and DTM processing. Concerning building extraction we have used the same production line as last year. Concerning vegetation extraction we tested two methods. The first one is classic : we threshold the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). The second method is more elaborated : it deals with an algorithm which studies the value of texture features and transforms colour spaces for segmentation and classification. For the DTM calculation we have used a method based on elastic grid algorithm. Finally we have integrated all these different necessary primitives (buildings, vegetation and DTM) to produce a complete 3D model on new datatests areas. [Termes IGN] satellite agileRésumé : (Auteur) The Pleiades-HR system, of which the first platform of the constellation shall be ready for launch by early 2009, is the next generation of high resolution optical sensor satellites developed by CNES, the French space agency. With its ability to provide photogrammetrists with instantaneous colour image stereo-pairs of 20km swath and 70cm resolution acquired with B/H ratios ranging from 0.15 to 2, the very agile and precisely pointing Pleiades platforms should open in many countries a new era for the updating of high scale maps, by probably avoiding heavy aerial survey campaigns in many cases. In the framework of a cooperation agreement between CNES and IGN-France, designed to prepare an operational use of these images, several experimentations and simulations are being carried out, in order to verify the ability of the system to fulfil the technical and operational requirements of the map-making processes, in comparison with those presently based on digital aerial photography. Among others, present studies particularly focus on : 1- the geometric and radiometric quality assessment of the planned system products (sensor level, orthoimages and mosaics) ; 2- the capacity assessment of the Pleiades-HR constellation to meet the IGN-F cartographic mission needs in terms of image volume for the coverage of the national territory, whether in monoscopic or stereoscopic mode. After an overview of the main characteristics of the Pleiades-HR system, the paper aims at presenting the first results of these studies, which will be of great importance, together with the economic side, in the decision process of IGN-France to transfer, or not, part of the supplying of fresh images from the aerial source to the satellite source. [Termes IGN] valeur radiométriqueRésumé : (Auteur) Pleiades is the highest resolution civilian earth observing system ever developed in Europe. This imagery program is conducted by the French National Space Agency, CNES. It will operate in 2009-2010 two agile satellites designed to provide optical images to civilian and defense users. Images will be simultaneously acquired in Panchromatic (PA) and multispectral (XS) mode, which allows, in Nadir acquisition condition, to deliver 20 km wide, false or natural colored scenes with a 70 cm ground sampling distance after PA+XS fusion. Imaging capabilities have been highly optimized in order to acquire along-track stereo pairs and triplets, multi-targets and mosaics. The automatic orthomosaic product is the most ambitious innovation of the PHR ground image processing. Starting from an overview of the system characteristics enabling acquisition suitable for mosaic, this paper presents the geometric, radiometric and topological issues of the automatic ortho-mosaic and then focuses on the processing flow. It details the different steps: strategy, bundle adjustment, DEM refining, radiometric adjustment, seam line computation, a helped and quick image quality check and finally mosaic rectification. The process capabilities are illustrated with different sensor images. And finally the ortho-mosaic product content is described. [Termes IGN] satellite GPSRésumé : (Auteur) Highly precise satellite-derived coordinates depend on accurate orbit predictions, which cannot be achieved with purely empirical models. Global positioning system (GPS) satellites undergo several periodic perturbing forces that have to be modeled and understood. In this scenario, small non-gravitational forces can no longer be neglected when the purpose of the orbital analysis is to obtain accurate results (Vilhena de Moraes 1994). Together with solar radiation pressure, thermal re-emission effects due to solar heating and Earth albedo are the two most important non-gravitational effects. While solar radiation pressure is widely understood, our knowledge about thermal re-emission effects on GPS satellites is in its infancy. Few models have been proposed in recent years and despite the interest of the scientific community, there is a lack of detailed results concerning the magnitude and the behavior of such forces. The aim of this work is to provide a thermal re-emission force model for GPS satellites, simple enough to minimize the problem of modeling a satellite of complex shape with several components on its surface, but accurate enough to provide an estimate of the magnitude and the behavior of these forces, as well as to provide some input to the present knowledge about photon thrust on GPS satellites. Some results of this work point to the fact that thermal re-emission effects are good candidates to partially explain the Y-bias for GPS satellites. [Termes IGN] temps réelRésumé : (Auteur) In the late 1980s, the French Centre national d'études spatiales' (CNES), in conjunction with the Institut géographique national' (IGN) and the Groupe de recherche en géodésie spatiale' (GRGS) developed a new geodetic tracking system called DORIS for precise orbit determination of low Earth orbiting satellites for oceanographic missions. Since then, the number of applications has increased, leading recently to the creation of an International DORIS Service (IDS), making it a part of the Global Geodetic Observation System (GGOS) currently under development within the International Association of Geodesy (IAG). The goal of this paper is to present the current applications of the DORIS system for precise orbit determination as well as for geodesy, geophysics, Earth rotation or atmospheric sciences. Current accuracies are discussed as well as already planned improvements. In particular, recent improvements in on-board real time orbit showing 5-cm radial agreement with post-processed orbits are discussed. In addition, when using a 5-satellite constellation, 1-cm precision is achievable for station position as well as sub milli-arcsecond precision for polar motion.
