[Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : Auteur) Growing demand for efficient land use above and below the ground motivates the transition of cadastre and land-management systems from traditional two-dimensional systems to three-dimensional ones. This transition is required especially in sprawling urban areas that are turning into megacities. A major concern in realizing the 3D cadastre vision is the development of efficient methods for attaching the third dimension to the existing 2D systems. In this regard, airborne laser technology that offers direct acquisition of dense and accurate 3D data appears to be the optimal means for this objective. Integration of surface data into objects and shapes, however, requires handling discrepancies between both datasets, which in turn can lead to incorrect assignment of height information. We present herein a methodology for fusing airborne laser-scanning-derived data into existing 2D cadastral systems. We demonstrate this integration in urban environments comprising high-rise buildings and open areas. Analysis of the data sources shows the necessity for such transformation, while the results demonstrate the appropriateness of the proposed fusion concept. [Termes IGN] transport publicRésumé : (Auteur) The Geospatial Public Transport Information available for the United Kingdom on the World-Wide Web is evaluated. Searches for relevant websites were made at different geographical scales; the breadth of content covered and level of technology used was assessed for each site found. Public Transport Maps on each website were rated according to eleven aspects of cartographic design and Web functionality. It was found that interactivity (represented by the use of higher technology) was greater for websites giving Public Transport Information for larger areas; however, the majority of information was communicated through text or static maps. The use of colour and symbology was generally found to be good in Public Transport Web maps, but marginalia was often insufficient and hardcopy printing sometimes inadequate, limiting the usability of the maps. A number of guidelines for good practice in the production of Public Transport Web maps are suggested, stressing the importance of clarity and legibility, plus some comments on website functionality. [Termes IGN] utilisateurRésumé : (Auteur) The Government of Canada's Atlas of Canada has, for over 100 years, produced maps of Canada's geography and history reflecting its social, environmental and economic diversity. The current online 6th Edition offers interactive and static thematic, reference and topographic maps. Initial interactive mapping user interfaces contained tools that were based on the developers' GIS experience. Users had, however, difficulty using these tools. To resolve this, the Atlas undertook considerable user and usability research initiatives and adopted and integrated a User Centred Design (UCD) process. This paper will look specifically at the methods used by the Atlas, the issues encountered and solutions achieved.
