Not only geometric attributes and topological attributes but also thematic attributes of irregular areas (e.g. districts of a city) are used to define these indices. In the paper, first the topological prominence related to geometric attributes such as size, location, and shape of areas is constructed by spatial weight matrix. Second, for finding comprehensive prominences, the principle axis factor model is adopted, and the first factor score is defined as the comprehensive prominence 1. Then, the proportion of thematic attributes of each area occupied in across the city is used to define the comprehensive prominence 2. Finally, we use these comprehensive prominences to extract some important regions in Matsudo City of Chiba Prefecture in Japan. The areas composing those regions show a high topological prominence, have a large population, have many offices, and are located around the train station. [Termes IGN] théorie de Dempster-ShaferRésumé : (auteur) A spatial data matching based on the Dempster-Shafer theory is presented in this paper. Spatial data are imperfect and this imperfection should be taken into account in the matching process. Data are matched by combining three criteria based on location, names of places and nature of the objects, i.e. semantic properties. Experiments are performed on relief points belonging to five different datasets. Precision and recall equal to almost 100% are achieved. [Termes IGN] superposition d'imagesRésumé : (Auteur) 3D surface matching would be an ill conditioned problem when the curvature of the object surface is either homogenous or isotropic, e.g. for plane or spherical types of objects. A reliable solution can only be achieved if supplementary information or functional constraints are introduced. In a previous paper, an algorithm for the least squares matching of overlapping 3D surfaces, which were digitized/sampled point by point using a laser scanner device, by the photogrammetric method or other techniques, was proposed [Gruen, A., and Akca, D., 2005. Least squares 3D surface and curve matching. ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing 59 (3), 151–174.]. That method estimates the transformation parameters between two or more fully 3D surfaces, minimizing the Euclidean distances instead of z-differences between the surfaces by least squares. In this paper, an extension to the basic algorithm is given, which can simultaneously match surface geometry and its attribute information, e.g. intensity, colour, temperature, etc. under a combined estimation model. Three experimental results based on terrestrial laser scanner point clouds are presented. The experiments show that the basic algorithm can solve the surface matching problem provided that the object surface has at least the minimal information. If not, the laser scanner derived intensities are used as supplementary information to find a reliable solution. The method derives its mathematical strength from the least squares image matching concept and offers a high level of flexibility for many kinds of 3D surface correspondence problem. [Termes IGN] visualisationRésumé : (Auteur) Choropleth maps are often used to visualize the spatial distribution of information collected for enumeration units. Such maps, however, are normally produced without considering the effect of uncertainty associated with data, which can contribute to incorrect interpretation. The purpose of this paper is to develop a method that can be used to evaluate the classification robustness of choropleth maps when the attribute uncertainty associated with the data is known or can be estimated. We first develop a measure to indicate the robustness of classification schemes. We then design a set of experiments to examine the robustness of different choropleth map classifications under various levels and types of uncertainty. Our experiments suggest that the robustness of a choropleth classification scheme is a function of uncertainty and the number of classes used. Increases in data uncertainty will decrease map robustness. However, it is possible to increase map robustness by choosing a smaller number of classes. We also discuss a visualization approach that can be used to display the classification robustness of each enumeration unit within a choropleth map.
