Two years of experimental use of the techniques have given rise to a number of adaptations, aiming to make the outputs realistic and operationally and economically useful. But as stated in this book, there are many areas where more refinements are required. Such refinements may be obtained from results of research now underway or planned for the second five-year phase. Particular attention will be given to ever greater integration of remotely-sensed observations and steadily evolving agrometeorological methods, using, amongst others, the results of research on observations already collected, such as on the 53 test sites, and exploiting more fully the tools (literature, data banks, grey matter networks) established earlier by JRC. Further improvements may be obtained from feedback provided by users of parts or totals of the techniques, that may be transferred for application on a national scale. Such improvements will help to attain the goal of the project, that is the provision of techniques to serve a Common Agricultural Policy that aims to increase net revenue for farmers.
