[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) The problem of identifying the shortest path along a road network is a fundamental problem in network analysis, ranging from route guidance in a navigation system to solving spatial allocation problems. Since this type of problem is solved so frequently, it is important to craft an approach that is as efficient as possible. Based upon past research, it is generally accepted that several efficient implementations of the Dijkstra algorithm are the fastest at optimally solving the 'one-to-one' shortest path problem (Cherkassky et al. 1996). We show that the most efficient state-of-the-art implementations of Dijkstra can be improved by taking advantage of network properties associated with GIS-sourced data. The results of this paper, derived from tests of different algorithmic approaches on real road networks, will be extremely valuable for application developers and researchers in the GIS community. [Termes IGN] réseau routierRésumé : (Auteur) Map matching algorithms are utilised to support the navigation module of advanced transport telematics systems. The objective of this paper is to develop a framework to quantify the effects of spatial road network data and navigation sensor data on the performance of map matching algorithms. Three map matching algorithms are tested with different spatial road network data (map scale 1:1,250; 1:2,500 and 1:50,000) and navigation sensor data (global positioning system (GPS) and GPS augmented with deduced reckoning) in order to quantify their performance. The algorithms are applied to different road networks of varying complexity. The performance of the algorithms is then assessed for a suburban road network using high precision positioning data obtained from GPS carrier phase observables. The results show that there are considerable effects of spatial road network data on the performance of map matching algorithms. For an urban road network, the results suggest that both the quality of spatial road network data and the type of navigation system affect the link identification performance of map matching algorithms. [Termes IGN] WiFiRésumé : (Auteur) Locata is a new positioning technology developed by the Locata Corporation. At the beginning of 2007, the Institute of Engineering Surveying and Space Geodesy (IESSG) bought and received a network of Locata transceivers with two rovers. The purpose is to solve the challenges identified when surveying in dense multipath areas (i.e. urban canyons). In this paper, the technology is tested in an urban canyon scenario on the University park at the University of Nottingham. By comparing Locata position solutions with the true positions calculated with a total station and a carrier-phase GPS, the results show that centimetre-level accuracy is achievable in difficult environments in the presence of Wi-Fi signals. The rover’s estimated coordinates may diverge in some cases. Finally, a comparison study shows that Real Time Kinematic GPS and Locata technologies have similar accuracy when both are available. [Termes IGN] trafic routierRésumé : (Auteur) In recent decades, rapid growth of travel volume has resulted in a significant increase in traffic congestion, accidents, environmental pollution and energy consumption. Accurate traffic data are drastically needed for effective evaluation of traffic systems in order to alleviate the impacts of increasing travel volume of the quality of life and economic development of urban areas. This article provides a discussion on a data acquisition methodology for highway traffic pattern recognition and congestion analysis by integrating data from the global positioning system (GPS) with a geographic information system (GIS). The GPS technology is a powerful tool in capturing continuous positioning and timing information, whereas the GIS is capable of storing, managing, manipulating, analyzing and displaying the acquired spatial information. Compared to previous studies, the effective integration of the two technologies allows for traffic analysis to be conducted at a finer resolution. The proposed method is illustrated with a case study on multiple major highway segments in Columbus, Ohio. [Termes IGN] triangulation de DelaunayRésumé : (Auteur) This paper proposes a new type of point-pattern analytical method, Network-Based Variable-Distance Clumping Method (NT-VCM), to analyse the distribution pattern of point objects and phenomena observed on a network. It is an extension of Planar Variable-Distance Clumping Method (PL-VCM) that was previously defined for point pattern analysis in Euclidian space. The purpose for developing NT-VCM is to identify point agglomerations across different scales called multi-scale network-based clumps among distributed points along a network. The paper first defines a network-based clump as a set of points where all its elements are found within a certain shortest-path distance from at least one other element of the same set. It then proposes NT-VCM as a technique to extract statistically significant multi-scale clumps on a network. The paper also proposes an efficient algorithm for computing NT-VCM, which involves the use of the Voronoi diagram, the Delaunay diagram and the minimum spanning tree that are adapted and newly extended for the purpose of analysis on a network. A comparative study of NT-VCM and PL-VCM using commercial facility data reveals a notable difference in the location as well as the size of the significant multi-scale clumps detected in the both cases. Results from the empirical study confirm that NT-VCM accounts for the actual network distance between the points, thus providing a more accurate description of point agglomerations along the network than PL-VCM does.
