[Termes IGN] surveillance géologiqueRésumé : (Auteur) The differential interferometric SAR (DInSAR) technique has proved its capability to detect small surface deformations in several types of applications. In this paper, its use as a quantitative subsidence monitoring tool is addressed to. A complete procedure is described, giving emphasis to the algorithms that have a major impact on the quality of the DInSAR results : the calibration of the InSAR geometry based on ground control points, which guarantees a high accuracy of the InSAR geometric model ; a filtering procedure suitable to reduce the atmospheric effects in small-scale subsidences; and a data fusion procedure for multiple observations, which represents a key step to improve the quality of the DInSAR products. The procedure was used in the analysis of a small-scale urban subsidence located in Catalonia, northeastern Spain. The validation of the results, which was based on the comparison with precise and independent reference data, is discussed in detail. [Termes IGN] vue perspectiveRésumé : (Auteur) The Intensity Hue Saturation (IHS) transformation is used to integrate the high spectral resolution, provided by hyperspectral data (Airborne Visible Infrared Imaging Spectrometer, AVIRIS), and the surface texture information, derived from radar data (Topographic Synthetic Aperture Radar, TOPSAR), into a single image of an urban area. This transformed image is superimposed on the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data derived from TOPSAR data to create a 3D perspective view. The ambiguity of several urban land cover types is resolved to a larger degree using the higher spectral and spatial resolutions and the synergistic visual content provided by the fused image in a 3D perspective. For urban areas that are at risk from geological hazards (e.g., avalanches, mudflows, and debris flows), the fused image provides a costeffective product, rich in the information necessary for assessment and mitigation of these hazards. [Termes IGN] transmission de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) Project FiRE (First Response Experiment), a disaster management technology demonstration, was performed in 2001. The experiment demonstrated the use of a thermal multispectral scanning imager, integrated on an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), a satellite uplink/downlink image data telemetry system, and nearrealtime georectification of the resultant imagery for data distribution via the Internet to disaster managers. The FiRE demonstration provided geocorrected image data over a controlled burn to a fire management community in nearrealtime by means of the melding of new technologies. The use of the UAV demonstrated remotely piloted flight (thereby reducing the potential for loss of human life during hazardous missions), and the ability to "linger and stare " over the fire for extended periods of time (beyond the capabilities of humanpilot endurance). Improvements in a high temperature calibrated thermal imaging scanner allowed "remote" operations from a UAV and provided realtime accurate fire information collection over a controlled burn. Improved bitrate capacity telemetry capabilities increased the amount, structure, and information content of the image data relayed to the ground. The integration of precision navigation instrumentation allowed improved accuracies in georectification of the resultant imagery, easing data ingestion and overlay in a GIS framework. We present a discussion of the feasibility of utilizing new platforms, improved sensor configurations, improved telemetry, and new geocorrection software to facilitate wildfire management and mitigation strategies. [Termes IGN] urbanisationRésumé : (Auteur) Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania, has stepped into a rapid urbanisation stage since 1980s, especially in the last decade. The population growth in a narrow corner between the Atlantic Ocean and Sahara Desert, exposed to several risks of natural disasters, has produced an overburden to the infertile land and at the same time led to a degradation of the urban environment and difficulty of life. This research is focused on an urban expansion analysis and flood risk assessment by remote sensing techniques utilising multitemporal SPOT/HRV images and demographic data. Our aims are to understand the factors influencing expansion, evaluate the means of controlling environmental impacts and produce useful references for the future urban planning. The results show that Nouakchott had extended by 36 km2 at an annual growth rate of 5.3% and an average extension rate of 3.6 km2/yr corresponding to a population growth about 380,000 people from 1989 to 1999. Regression analysis suggests that the latter is the main dynamics driving the urban expansion (R' = 0.9873). Furthermore, the littoral depression, a belt in peril of seawater inundation between the coastal sandbar and urban districts, where future urban construction is recommended to avoid, was analysed and three risk degrees graded by spatial modelling. And finally, three inneglected points proposed for consideration in the future urban planning were discussed in this paper.
