[Vedettes matières IGN] Végétation et changement climatiqueRésumé : (auteur) The role of modern climatic microrefugia is a neglected aspect in the study of biotic responses to anthropogenic climate change. Current projections of species redistribution at continental extent are based on climatic grids of coarse (≥ 1 km) resolutions that fail to capture spatiotemporal dynamics associated with climatic microrefugia. Here, we review recent methods to model the climatic component of potential microrefugia and highlight research gaps in accounting for the buffering capacity due to biophysical processes operating at very fine ( Numéro de notice : A2017-635 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : FORET/IMAGERIE Nature : Article DOI : 10.1111/ecog.02788 En ligne : http://doi.org/10.1111/ecog.02788 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=86976

[Termes IGN] occupation du solRésumé : (Auteur) The combination of elevation data together with multispectral high-resolution images is a new methodology for obtaining land use/land cover classification. It represents a step forward for both the accuracy and automation of LULC applications and allows users to setup thematic assignments through rules based on feature attributes and human expert interpretation of land usage. The synergy between different types of information means that LiDAR can give new hints at both the segmentation and hybrid classification steps, leading to a joint use of multispectral, spatial and elevation data. The output is a thematic map characterized by a custom-designed legend that is able to discriminate between land cover classes with similar spectral characteristics (level 3 of the CLC legend). Experimental results from a hilly farmland area with some urban structures (Musone river basin, Ancona, Italy) are used to highlight how the proposed methodology enhances land cover classification in heterogeneous environments. [Termes IGN] superpositionRésumé : (Auteur) Terrestrial laser scanning has demonstrated increasing potential for rapid comprehensive measurement of forest structure, especially when multiple scans are spatially registered in order to reduce the limitations of occlusion. Although marker-based registration techniques (based on retro-reflective spherical targets) are commonly used in practice, a blind marker-free approach is preferable, insofar as it supports rapid operational data acquisition. To support these efforts, we extend the pairwise registration approach of our earlier work, and develop a graph-theoretical framework to perform blind marker-free global registration of multiple point cloud data sets. Pairwise pose estimates are weighted based on their estimated error, in order to overcome pose conflict while exploiting redundant information and improving precision. The proposed approach was tested for eight diverse New England forest sites, with 25 scans collected at each site. Quantitative assessment was provided via a novel embedded confidence metric, with a mean estimated root-mean-square error of 7.2 cm and 89% of scans connected to the reference node. This paper assesses the validity of the embedded multiview registration confidence metric and evaluates the performance of the proposed registration algorithm. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) Three-dimensional (3D) data from light detection and ranging (lidar) sensor have proven advantageous in the remote sensing domain for characterization of object structure and dimensions. Fusion-based approaches of lidar and aerial imagery also becoming popular. In this study, aerial color (RGB) imagery, along with co-registered airborne discrete lidar data were used to separate vegetation and buildings from other urban classes/cover-types, as a precursory step towards the assessment of urban forest biomass. Both spectral and structural features such as object height, distribution of surface normals from the lidar, and a novel vegetation metric derived from combined lidar and RGB imagery, referred to as the lidar-infused vegetation index (LDVI) were used in this classification method. The proposed algorithm was tested on different cityscape regions to verify its robustness. Results showed a good separation of buildings and vegetation from other urban classes with on average an overall classification accuracy of 92 percent, with a kappa statistic of 0.85. These results bode well for the operational fusion of lidar and RGB imagery, often flown on the same platform, towards improved characterization of the urban forest and built environments. [Termes IGN] série temporelleRésumé : (auteur) Terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) technology is a powerful tool for assessing tree growth based on time series analysis, as it allows a level of scrutiny not achievable using established destructive techniques. We applied TLS technology to 21 wild cherry trees grown in a research plot near Breisach (southern Germany) in order to build quantitative structure models (QSMs) for each tree. Scans were carried out over three subsequent years (2012-2014), so that three QSMs per each tree were constructed. Using the above approach, we were able to assess the annual growth of the individual wild cherry trees in terms of diameter and height, stem and branch volume, and the merchantable timber fraction. In addition, the growth of single branches of sample trees was detected and quantified. The availability of QSMs based on TLS-derived data allowed the accurate determination of crown length and width, as well as the volume reduction as the result of the tree pruning applied after the first scan (2012). The aboveground biomass (AGB) was assessed for each tree based on the QSM-derived volume and published wood density values for wild cherry, and then compared with AGB values estimated with standard allometric methods, obtaining a very high correlation (r2adj= 0.941). We concluded that the proposed approach is an effective non-destructive technique to accurately assess the increase of tree biomass, and discuss its future application in the forestry sector.
