[Termes IGN] vision par ordinateurRésumé : (auteur) Centimetre level precision mapping is essential for many applications such as land-use, infrastructure inspection, cultural heritage preservation, and construction site monitoring. However, the acquisition and its preparation (in particular the setting of a ground control point network (GCPs)) are still expensive or even impossible in cluttered or dangerous areas. The recent development of UAVs together with the miniaturization of the sensors is a promising evolution for reducing costs and expand opportunities. The sensors embedded on the drone: GNSS antenna, IMU, camera and (optional) LIDAR are light and often low-cost. The low quality of their raw measurements must be counterbalanced by their rigorous modeling in order to obtain accurate final results: if we cannot expect the sensors to be error-free, one must model these in order to correct them. This is achieved by in-situ calibration or on a dedicated calibration field, together with a rigorous fusion of the raw data acquired by the different sensors with the so-called bundle-adjustment method. This thesis proposes several models to describe the behavior of the sensors, in order to hybridize them rigorously in the bundle-adjustment. Consistent datasets have been acquired on the field specifically to assess the relevance of both the sensor models and their hybridizing in complex photogrammetric processing. The contribution of this thesis could be divided into two mains categories. On one hand, this thesis suggests tools and recommendation to improve directly the procedures achieved by end-users using current UAV-mapping commercial solutions (in particular for the GCPs placement, for the choice of the camera calibration and model and for the flight-plan). On the other hand, this thesis put forward exotic methods (methods considered as exotic at the time of the writing of the thesis) such as Photo-LIDAR hybridizing and collaborative mapping achieved by a terrestrial-aerial tandem (a terrestrial vehicle holding a LIDAR, GNSS, imaging and inertial sensors followed by a drone conceived to proceed to airborne photogrammetry) or an aerial-aerial tandem (two drones flying in formation to proceed to airborne photogrammetry). The contribution of this thesis will permit to reduce costs, to improve the quality of mapping products and to enlarge the possibilities of mapping: in particular, map cluttered or inaccessible zones which are nowadays considered as difficult or even impossible to map. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser terrestreRésumé : (auteur) Monitoring of man-made structures and regions posing potential natural hazards plays a pivotal role in preventing human and economic losses and thus, has been a central topic in geodesy for a long time. However, while the monitored objects (e.g. landslides) often are areal phenomena, classic geodetic monitoring still applies point-based measurement systems. Over the past few years, area-based methods (e.g. terrestrial laser scanning) are closing this gap and allow the acquisition of object geometry or surfaces with high spatial resolution and high accuracy. However, with the use of terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) for monitoring, new challenges arise. Two examples of such challenges are the scan registration and the mitigation of time-varying artefacts. When TLS is used for monitoring, scans over a sequence of epochs have to be acquired. The different scans have to be transformed into a common stable reference frame before changes between epochs can be analysed. This process is called registration and well-established solutions exist for scanning at close-range or scenes without changes between the scans. However, the standard approaches are not applicable for scenes with significant deformations and observed from long-range, a scenario typically encountered in the monitoring of natural hazards. Thus, in such monitoring cases, the need for other approaches exists. Furthermore, when scanning over long ranges, time-varying artefacts affect the resulting point clouds. These artefacts can be caused e.g. by atmospheric refraction and may result in apparent displacements of up to a few decimetres. Due to the temporarily and spatially varying air density distribution during the time required for the individual scan acquisition, the resulting point clouds are distorted systematically, but non-linearly. To tackle these two challenges, a data-driven registration algorithm for scan pairs of scenes with significant changes between epochs and an investigation of the time-varying artifacts are presented. The core of the registration approach is a data-driven classification of the scene into stable and unstable areas and a registration based on the stable areas only. The proposed registration algorithm is successfully applied to two different scenarios (an indoor and an outdoor scene). For both scenarios, the algorithm performs well with a sensibly chosen set of parameters. In addition, the algorithm is successfully applied to scans from an experimental study carried out in the scope of the investigation of the time-varying artefacts. This investigation focuses on atmospheric refraction and is based on numerical simulation and an experimental study, that allows a clear detection and analysis of the atmospheric effects. The numerical simulation demonstrates that these effects can cause apparent displacements on a decimeter-level, resulting from a combination of the measurement ray curvature and the terrain inclination. The results are corroborated by the experimental study. Additionally, the data from the experiment show that the magnitude of the effects from atmospheric refraction varies with time of the day. Currently, there is no solution to a data-driven or forward-modeling based compensation available but the study herein indicates that the effects might be mostly negligible when using only scans acquired at certain times in the evening. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) Climate warming has led to an urgent need for improved estimates of carbon accumulation in uneven-aged, mixed temperate forests, where high uncertainty remains. We investigated the feasibility of using LiDAR-derived forest attributes to initialize a growth and yield (G&Y) model in complex stands at the Petawawa Research Forest (PRF) in eastern Ontario, Canada; i.e., can G&Y models based on LiDAR provide accurate predictions of aboveground carbon accumulation in complex forests compared to traditional inventory-based estimates? Applying a local G&Y model, we forecasted aboveground carbon stock (tons/ha) and accumulation (tons/ha/yr) using recurring plot measurements from 2012–2016, FVS1. We applied statistical predictors derived from LiDAR to predict stem density (SD), stem diameter distribution (SDD), and basal area distribution (BA_dist). These data, along with measured species abundance, were used to initialize a second model (FVS2). A third model was tested using LiDAR-initialized tree lists and photo-interpreted estimates of species abundance (i.e., FVS3). The carbon stock projections for 2016 from the inventory-based G&Y model) were equivalent to validation carbon stocks measured in 2016 at all size-class levels (p 0.05). At the plot level, LiDAR-based predictions of carbon accumulation over a nine-year period did not differ when using either inventory or photo-interpreted species (p Numéro de notice : A2020-222 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article DOI : 10.3390/rs12010201 Date de publication en ligne : 06/01/2020 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.3390/rs12010201 Format de la ressource électronique : url article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=94934
