[Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) Although the GIS community has been quick to exploit the advantages of virtual reality (VR) for display and analysis of spatial data, VR does not appear to have been exploited widely for remote sensing data analysis. A case study of high resolution lidar data acquired over a deciduous forest near Morgantown, WV was used to investigate the potential and limitations of current VR software for remote sensing analysis. The functionality within a standard remote sensing software package was found to provide a good overview of interpolated, smoothed lidar data, but was less useful for gridded data that had not been interpolated. With gridded data, it was possible to drape orthophotographs or other images over the lidar data, providing a useful method for investigating relationships between lidar and other data. Alternatively, using a commercial VR package, it was possible to view the original lidar point data, and thus visualize the multiple returns from within the canopy of each tree. The point data were preferable for identification of surfaces within the data cloud, especially the ground surface. For a fully integrated remote sensing VR package, functionality will be needed to link point and interpolated coverages, and also to enhance the interactive selection of data for further statistical analysis, Numéro de notice : A2003-100 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : FORET/IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1080/10106040308542260 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1080/10106040308542260 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=22396

In a steady shift from traditional 2D--GIS toward 3D-GIS, a great amount of accurate 3D city models have become necessary to be produced in a short period of time and provided widely on the market. The authors have developed a system for automatic generation of 3D city models, using laser profiler data, 2D digital map, and aerial image, which are processed by the software newly developed. MapCube, the 3D city models generated by the system, has already covered all major cities of Japan at the end of 2002. Applications for virtual reality (VR) that deal with accurate and photo-realistic 3D city models are becoming indispensable in many fields. However, there had been no VR viewer that can appropriately deal with a great amount of 3D city data in real time. In order to solve the problem the authors have developed a new VR viewer called Urban Viewer that can make best use of 3D city models, especially MapCube. VR applications used on display devices should provide easy interactive operation. The authors have developed a new type of VR display device with optical sensors called NEXTRAX, which users can operate as easily as touch-panel display, with more accuracy of operation and much more durability. NEXTRAX also provides simultaneous display of co-related information including 3D city model, 2D digital map and varieties of multimedia information. [Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) Airborne laser Systems provide a three-dimensional (3D) perception of the Earth's topography with clouds of points. Whereas the technique ensures a high theoritical quality, one can observe discrepancies in certain areas. This situation may be of importance in case of joint sensor application, like merging airborne laser scanner with photogrammetry. The first step of a fusion process is to define a common reference frame so that a global geometric coherence should be extracted. This article describes a methodology for matching a single laser strip with a photogrammetric derived Digital Elevation Model (DEM), and as a result estimating intra-strip errors. It is based on calculating local linear deformations with a tri-dimensionnal accumulator (translation space). We show that searching for local discrepancy is equivalent to compute the maximum of the accumulator. 2D and 3D simulated problems are discussed in details and solved over known transformed data set. Results on real data show a significant improvement when applying retrieved local translations to laser points. After correction, both data sets tend to be expressed in the same reference frame. The accurate registration is then ensured.
