[Termes IGN] réflectance de surfaceRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents an improved Dark Dense Vegetation (DDV) method for retrieving 500 m-resolution aerosol optical depth (AOT) based on MOD04-C005 arithmetic with the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The improvements include change of the movement pattern of retrieval window, selection of a more suitable aerosol type, and storage of the look-up table. The method is then applied to obtain the AOT over the Pearl River Delta region (PRD). By comparing the results with the co-temporal ground sunphotometer observations in 2010, the correlation coefficient is found to be 0.794 with RMSE 0.139 and their variations remain consistent. Contrasts between model values in 2008 and MODIS AOT products in the same date also reveal a high accuracy of the improved DDV method. We also performed sensitivity tests to analyze the impacts of several parameters on apparent reflectance at different bands, and the results show that apparent reflectance is much more sensitive to surface reflectance and AOT than to elevation. [Termes IGN] polarimétrie radarRésumé : (Auteur) Analyzing the precision of vegetation height estimation with compact (i.e., single transmit instead of dual transmit) polarimetric interferometric synthetic aperture radar (PolInSAR) with the homogeneous random volume over ground model can help justify the use of this type of radar rather than using the full PolInSAR. However, since compact PolInSAR provides less information than full PolInSAR, a loss of precision in the vegetation height estimation is expected, which can depend on the single transmit polarization. The adaptation of the Cramer-Rao bound (CRB) derived for full PolInSAR in our earlier work to compact PolInSAR measurement provides a general methodology to characterize this loss of precision. Indeed, the CRB is a lower bound of the variance of unbiased estimators that does not depend on the choice of a particular estimation method. We illustrate this methodology for P-band measurements with three synthetic examples chosen for their variability of polarimetric responses. For these examples, it is shown that there can exist a large set of transmit polarizations for which the loss of precision described by the CRB is small (smaller than a factor 2) although there also exist transmit polarizations for which the loss can be large (about a factor 100). This loss of precision is compared with the large dependency of the precision to the vegetation height estimation that can be observed with the vegetation height (more than a factor 100 in the precision described by the CRB) when all the other parameters of the vegetation, ground, and radar system are constant. [Termes IGN] Tokyo (Japon)Résumé : (Auteur) This paper presents new methodology for correcting interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) deformation maps using GPS observables and products. The methodology presents a sequential procedure for correcting the errors presented in InSAR deformation maps such as troposphere delay, ionosphere delay and baseline error. The main target of this research is to measure land deformations with geodetic accuracy using only one L-band interferogram with the aid of GPS observables and products. The proposed methodology was tested on Tokyo bay area which has been affected by the 2011 Tohoku earthquake. The results were verified against deformations detected by GPS stations and geodetic triangulation network showing a standard deviation of 5.6 and 10.5 mm, respectively. [Termes IGN] polarimétrie radarRésumé : (Auteur) Fully polarimetric L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) backscatter was collected using NASA's Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) SAR and regressed with in situ measure-ments of basal area (BA) and above ground biomass (AGB) of mature Loblolly pine stands in North Carolina. Results found HH polarization consistently displayed the lowest correlations where HV andVV exhibited the highest correlations in all groups for both BA and AGB. When plantation stands were analyzed separately (plantation versus natural), correlation improved significantly for both BA (R2 = 0.65, hv) and AGB (R2 = 0.66, vv). Similarly, results improved when natural stands were analyzed separately resulting in the highest correlation for AGB (R2 = 0.63, HV and VV). Data decomposition using the Freeman 3-component model indicated that the relative low correlations were due to the saturation of the L-band backscatter across the majority of the study area. [Termes IGN] tomographie radarRésumé : (Auteur) Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) tomography is a 3-D imaging modality that is commonly tackled by spectral estimation techniques. Thus, the backscattered power along the cross-range direction can be readily obtained by computing the Fourier spectrum of a stack of multibaseline measurements. In addition, recent work has addressed the tomographic inversion under the framework of compressed sensing, thereby recovering sparse cross-range profiles from a reduced set of measurements. This paper differs from previous publications, in that it focuses on sparse expansions in the wavelet domain while working with the second-order statistics of the corresponding multibaseline measurements. In this regard, we elaborate on the conditions under which this perspective is applicable to forested areas and discuss the possibility of optimizing the acquisition geometry. Finally, we compare this approach with traditional nonparametric ones and validate it by using fully polarimetric L-band data acquired by the Experimental SAR (E-SAR) sensor of the German Aerospace Center (DLR).
