[Termes IGN] tri (informatique)Résumé : (Auteur) This work is a contribution to the developing literature on multi-resolution data models. It considers operations for model-oriented generalization in the case where the underlying data is structured as a graph. The paper presents a new approach in that a distinction is made between generalizations that amalgamate data objects and those that select data objects. We show that these two types of generalization are conceptually distinct, and provide a formal framework in which both can be understood. Generalizations that are combinations of amalgamation and selection are termed simplifications, and the paper provides a formal framework in which simplifications can be computed (for example, as compositions of other simplifications). A detailed case study is presented to illustrate the techniques developed, and directions for further work are discussed. [Termes IGN] tempsRésumé : (Editeur) In the process of updating a geo-database, loss occurs of the past state of the database. Many applications require occasional data concerning the past. How can the past be retained in geographical databases ? Some solutions to this problem are here proposed with reference to geo-relational systems. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) A pen-based mapping method has been developed using customisable off-the-shelf software and pen-based PCs for more cost-effective, efficient field data collection and processing. Three primary applications types are targeted : facilities management, utility management and stormwater management. [Termes IGN] système de gestion de bases de données relationnellesRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper we introduce a classification for spatiotemporal systems based on the properties of the represented objects. Building on this classification, we assert that complex objects can be derived from simpler ones, following an evolutionary approach which starts with the study of simple objects and ends by enriching them with new features. This paper focuses on the definition of a data model for the representation of moving points. The model is based on the decomposition of the trajectory of moving points into sections. The movement within each section of a trajectory is described by a variability function. Because for most systems it is not possible to store the exact knowledge about the movement of an object, the answers to queries may be imprecise. We propose two additional approaches to deal with imprecision the superset and the subset semantics based on a maximum value for the variability function, and a smooth technique to integrate them in the model. Finally, we analyze certain functional aspects of the implementation of the data model in a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) and outline directions for future research.
