[Termes IGN] rhéologieRésumé : (Auteur) Glacial Isostatic Adjustment (GIA) models commonly assume a mantle with a viscoelastic Maxwell rheology and a fixed ice history model. Here, we use a Bayesian Monte Carlo approach with a Markov chain formalism to invert the global GIA signal simultaneously for the mechanical properties of the mantle and the volumes of the ice sheets, using as starting ice models two previously published ice histories. Two stress relaxing rheologies are considered: Burgers and Maxwell linear viscoelasticities. A total of 5720 global palaeo sea level records are used, covering the last 35 kyr. Our goal is not only to seek the model best fitting this data set, but also to determine and display the range of possible solutions with their respective probability of explaining the data. In all cases, our a posteriori probability maps exhibit the classic character of solutions for GIA-determined mantle viscosity with two distinct peaks. What is new in our treatment is the presence of the bi-viscous Burgers rheology and the fact that we invert rheology jointly with ice history, in combination with the greatly expanded palaeo sea level records. The solutions tend to be characterized by an upper-mantle viscosity of around 5 × 1020 Pa s with one preferred lower-mantle viscosities at 3 × 1021 Pa s and the other more than 2 × 1022 Pa s, a rather classical pairing. Best-fitting models depend upon the starting ice history and the stress relaxing law. A first peak (P1) has the highest probability only in the case with a Maxwell rheology and ice history based on ICE-5G, while the second peak (P2) is favoured for ANU-based ice history or Burgers stress relaxation. The latter solution also may satisfy lower-mantle viscosity inferences from long-term geodynamics and gravity gradient anomalies over Laurentia. P2 is also consistent with large Laurentian and Fennoscandian ice-sheet volumes at the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) and smaller LGM Antarctic ice volume than in either ICE-5G or ANU. Exploration of a bi-viscous linear relaxing rheology in GIA now seems logical due to a new set of requirements to satisfy observations of transient post-seismic flow seen so ubiquitously in space gravimetry and other global geodetic data. [Termes IGN] sous-boisRésumé : (auteur) Ecological functions of a black alder riparian forest (Aegopodio-Alnetum glutinosae) as capacities for the provision of ecosystem services were analysed and indicated by an inductive (bottom-up) approach. In July 2015, species richness and diversity of the forest stand were analysed in Hlboká valley, near Husárka water reservoir, Tríbeč Mountains, western Slovakia, by phytocoenological relevé, aboveground biomass of the herb layer and litter mass were estimated by a harvest method. The quantitative data obtained for the forest vegetation were used for estimation of capacities (potentials) of the floodplain forest to provide non-market ecosystem services. The forage, melliferous and therapeutic potential were estimated and calculated by Jurko’s methods of ecological and socio-economic evaluations of vegetation. Aboveground biomass (production potential) of the forest understorey community was relatively high (seasonal maximum standing crop 59.03 g·m–2 in dry mass). The result of evaluation of the forage potential of the alder forest was higher than 50%, it means medium forage quality community. The melliferous potential was evaluated close to 190% (= high potential). The share of medicinal plants in the studied plant community was higher than 30%, referred to as extremely rich therapeutic potential. The analyses confirmed that the forest community represents high potentials for providing production ecosystem services. [Termes IGN] série temporelleRésumé : (Auteur) This paper evaluates the retrieval of soil moisture in the top 5-cm layer at 3-km spatial resolution using L-band dual-copolarized Soil Moisture Active-Passive (SMAP) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data that mapped the globe every three days from mid-April to early July, 2015. Surface soil moisture retrievals using radar observations have been challenging in the past due to complicating factors of surface roughness and vegetation scattering. Here, physically based forward models of radar scattering for individual vegetation types are inverted using a time-series approach to retrieve soil moisture while correcting for the effects of static roughness and dynamic vegetation. Compared with the past studies in homogeneous field scales, this paper performs a stringent test with the satellite data in the presence of terrain slope, subpixel heterogeneity, and vegetation growth. The retrieval process also addresses any deficiencies in the forward model by removing any time-averaged bias between model and observations and by adjusting the strength of vegetation contributions. The retrievals are assessed at 14 core validation sites representing a wide range of global soil and vegetation conditions over grass, pasture, shrub, woody savanna, corn, wheat, and soybean fields. The predictions of the forward models used agree with SMAP measurements to within 0.5 dB unbiased-root-mean-square error (ubRMSE) and -0.05 dB (bias) for both copolarizations. Soil moisture retrievals have an accuracy of 0.052 m3/m3 ubRMSE, -0.015 m3/m3 bias, and a correlation of 0.50, compared to in situ measurements, thus meeting the accuracy target of 0.06 m3/m3 ubRMSE. The successful retrieval demonstrates the feasibility of a physically based time series retrieval with L-band SAR data for characterizing soil moisture over diverse conditions of soil moisture, surface roughness, and vegetation.
