[Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Irrespective of substantial research in land use/land cover (LULC) monitoring of urban area, hyperspectral data is not yet exploited effectively because of lack of local spectral resources and a practical reflectance calibration method. The objective of this research is to develop an effective methodology for urban LULC classification using image-based reflectance calibration methods: especially Vegetation-Impervious-Soil classes (VIS), using hyperspectral data. We used EO-1 Hyperion image of Pune City, India and assessed the suitability of different land covers as reflectance calibration surfaces. Furthermore, we performed LULC classification using different reflectance calibration methods such as Internal Area Relative Reflectance, Flat Field Relative Reflectance, and 6S for comparative analysis. Urban VIS signatures extracted from Hyperion image show distinct spectral curves at broader level. Flat Field Relative Reflectance method provides above 90 percent average overall accuracy. An advanced physics-based method such as 6S does not provide any added advantage over image-based calibration methods. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) Recently, classification of urban area based on multi-sensor fusion has been widely investigated. In this paper, the potential of using visible (VIS) and thermal infrared (TIR) hyperspectral images fusion for classification of urban area is evaluated. For this purpose, comprehensive spatial-spectral feature space is generated which includes vegetation index, differential morphological profile (DMP), attribute profile (AP), texture, geostatistical features, structural feature set (SFS) and local statistical descriptors from both datasets in addition to original datasets. Although Support Vector Machine (SVM) is an appropriate tool in the classification of high dimensional feature space, its performance is significantly affected by its parameters and feature space. Cuckoo search (CS) optimization algorithm with mixed binary-continuous coding is proposed for feature selection and SVM parameter determination simultaneously. Moreover, the significance of each selected feature category in the classification of a specific object is verified. Accuracy assessment on two subsets shows that stacking of VIS and TIR bands can improve the classification performance to 87 percent and 82 percent for two subsets, compare to VIS image (72 percent and 80 percent) and TIR image (50 percent and 56 percent). However, the optimum results obtained based on the proposed method which gains 94 percent and 92 percent. Furthermore, results show that using TIR beside VIS image improves classification accuracy of roads and buildings in urban area. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) This research deals with the automatic generation of 2D land cover maps of urban areas using very high resolution multispectral aerial imagery. The appropriate selection of classifier and attributes is important to achieve high thematic accuracies. In this paper, new attributes are generated to increase the discriminative power of auxiliary information provided by remote sensing images. The generated attributes are derived from the vegetation index and elevation information using morphological attribute profiles. The extended experimental evaluation and comparison of attribute profile-based mapping solutions is conducted to derive the optimal combinations of attributes required for classification and to understand the genericity of attributes on a range of classifiers, i.e., various combinations of attributes and classifiers. Experimental results with two high resolution images show that the proposed attributes derived on auxiliary information outperform the existing attribute profiles computed on original image and its principal components. [Termes IGN] régression logistiqueRésumé : (Auteur) A big challenge of hyperspectral image (HSI) classification is the small size of labeled pixels for training classifier. In real remote sensing applications, we always face the situation that an HSI scene is not labeled at all, or is with very limited number of labeled pixels, but we have sufficient labeled pixels in another HSI scene with the similar land cover classes. In this paper, we try to classify an HSI scene containing no labeled sample or only a few labeled samples with the help of a similar HSI scene having a relative large size of labeled samples. The former scene is defined as the target scene, while the latter one is the source scene. We name this classification problem as cross-scene classification. The main challenge of cross-scene classification is spectral shift, i.e., even for the same class in different scenes, their spectral distributions maybe have significant deviation. As all or most training samples are drawn from the source scene, while the prediction is performed in the target scene, the difference in spectral distribution would greatly deteriorate the classification performance. To solve this problem, we propose a dictionary learning-based feature-level domain adaptation technique, which aligns the spectral distributions between source and target scenes by projecting their spectral features into a shared low-dimensional embedding space by multitask dictionary learning. The basis atoms in the learned dictionary represent the common spectral components, which span a cross-scene feature space to minimize the effect of spectral shift. After the HSIs of two scenes are transformed into the shared space, any traditional HSI classification approach can be used. In this paper, sparse logistic regression (SRL) is selected as the classifier. Especially, if there are a few labeled pixels in the target domain, multitask SRL is used to further promote the classification performance. The experimental results on synthetic and real HSIs show the advantages of the proposed method for cross-scene classification.
