[Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) The problem of generalizing spatial data sets has been studied in the context of categorical data. Map Algebra, a deterministic modeling language, has been chosen as the modeling language for the generalization transformations. The methodology is based on simple basic Map Algebra functions, which are brought together and run as a sequenced batch file. From the basic Map Algebra functions, several individual generalization transformations have been composed ; the three most important are described extensively in the paper. The two major practical projects implemented with the automatic generalization transformations are presented. Finally, the results of the methodological development for generalizing categorical databases are presented and the prospects for extending the methodology are discussed. [Termes IGN] objet géographique linéaireRésumé : (auteur) Rapid mapping is a recent technological advance that combines the Global Positioning System (GPS) with dead reckoning and inertial navigation sensors to produce a mapping system. Such a mapping system mounted in the appropriate vehicle permits “rapid” mapping of road or rail centrelines. To date, data collected from rapid mapping has been post-processed in a traditional least squares estimation of coordinates, or passed through a Kalman filter for real-time position estimation. In this paper a truly four-dimensional approach is described. This approach yields a continuous map of the linear feature (rather than a model composed of discrete points), and allows for an interesting treatment of raw observations. The paper introduces the four-dimensional model and required observation equations, provides a brief discussion of the model solution using sparse matrix techniques, and mentions a few applications of the model. [Termes IGN] réseau bayesienRésumé : (Auteur) During the last years an increasing demand for 3D data of urban scenes can be recognized. Techniques for automatic acquisition of buildings are needed to satisfy this demand in an economic way. This paper describes an approach for building extraction using digital surface models (DSM) as input data. The first task is the detection of areas within the DSM which describe buildings. The second task is the reconstruction of geometric building descriptions. In this paper we focus on new extensions of our approach. The first extension is the detection of buildings using two alternative classification schemes: a binary or a statistical classification based on Bayesian nets, both using local geometric properties. The second extension is the extraction of roof structures as a first step towards the reconstruction of polyhedral building descriptions. [Termes IGN] végétationRésumé : (Auteur) Above-ground analysis is a key point to the reconstruction of urban scenes, but it is a difficult task because of the diversity of the involved objects. We propose a new method to above-ground extraction from an aerial stereo pair, which does not require any assumption about object shape or nature. A Digital Surface Model is first produced by a stereoscopic matching stage preserving discontinuities, and then processed by a region-based Markovian classification algorithm. The produced above-ground areas are finally characterized as man-made or natural according to the grey level information. The quality of the results is assessed and discussed.
