[Termes IGN] segmentation d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) The automatic reconstruction of buildings for the generation of city models is of great interest for different tasks. Threedimensional information can be directly obtained from both, laser (LIDAR) and radar (InSAR) measurements. The features of both sensors are compared. The data acquisition by SAR is described, with emphasis on the special properties of the interferometric SAR principle. A segmentation approach for building reconstruction is proposed. The results show that building reconstruction is possible from InSAR, but the achievable level of detail cannot compete with LIDAR. The main source of limitation is the inherent sidelooking scene illumination of SAR, giving rise to disturbing phenomena interfering with often large parts of the scene. Geometric constraints for the location and size of such problem areas are derived. To identify areas of unreliable data in SAR images of a builtup area, corresponding elevation data are analysed. The impact of the phenomena layover, shadow and dominant scattering at building locations is considered. For this task, a hybrid elevation reference is required. The buildings and the surrounding ground are represented as CAD planes. Natural objects like trees and bushes remain in the raster representation. [Termes IGN] visualisationRésumé : (Auteur) This research investigates the potential of a dedicated Geographic Information System (GIS) to provide spatiotemporal data visualisation and analysis to aid multiple-use forest management in the Kingston State Forest, near Manjimup, Western Australia. The goals of this research are to develop and use sophisticated data evaluation techniques to assist in understanding the ecology of the western ringtail possum and to evaluate the impact of current timber harvesting practices on possum populations to ensure the jarrah forests continue to support them.
Data used included digital topographic data as well as spatial and temporal fauna observation data. Visual representation of interactive queries offered a conceptual understanding of the spatial structure and temporal aspects of the data, showing that possum behaviour differed between harvested and nonharvested areas within the research site. Furthermore, the dedicated GIS proved its utility as a management and research tool that is readily transferable and accessible to multiple-use land managers and research scientists, offering a generic environment fior subsequent fauna habitat research. This paper describes a method to compare raster maps of categorical data. The method applies fuzzy set theory and involves both fuzziness of location and fuzziness of category. The fuzzy comparison yields a map, which specifies for each cell the degree of similarity on a scale of 0 to 1. Besides this spatial assessment of similarity also an overall value for similarity is derived. This statistic corrects the cellaverage similarity value for the expected similarity. It can be considered the fuzzy equivalent of the Kappa statistic and is therefore called KFuzzy A hypothetical case demonstrates how the comparison method distinguishes minor changes and fluctuations within patterns from major changes. Finally, a practical case illustrates how the method can be useful in a validation process. Le projet Inspire, Infrastructure for Spatial Information in Europe, a pour objectif d'augmenter la quantité et la qualité de l'information géographique disponible et de mettre à disposition des données géographiques de référence. Différentes initiatives ont fourni déjà des éléments d'expériences à plusieurs niveaux. Des échanges entre groupes de travail et le groupe d'experts d'Inspire ont permis d'affiner les principes et d'envisager une nouvelle approche. le programme suivra une démarche progressive par étapes.
