[Termes IGN] traitement de données GNSSRésumé : (Auteur) The GPS analysis strategies, the applied models and software have been considerably changed since the global (IGS - International GNSS Service) and regional (EPN - EUREF Permanent Network) CORS networks are operational. All changes brought along temporal inhomogeneities in the estimated parameters, most apparently in the coordinate time series. After the introduction of the absolute phase centre variation (PCV) models of the satellite and ground GPS antennae, the complete re-analysis of the historical measurements could not be postponed. Within the IGS the re-analysis is now in progress and it will be followed by a coordinated re-processing of the EPN observations from 1996 on.
In preparation of the EPN reprocessing a pilot re-analysis has been done at the Military University of Technology (MUT) in Poland covering the complete EPN dataset and similar work has been started at the Royal Observatory of Belgium (ROB). The target of this work was to assess the required resources, the status and completeness of the database and to quantify the improvement gained by the reprocessing. Using the CATREF software (Altamimi et al. 2004) two cumulative solutions have been created by stacking the standard and the reprocessed weekly EPN SINEX solutions. In this paper, the first analysis of the estimated coordinates, velocities and the residual time series is presented. We detected 10-30% improvement in the weekly weighted RMS, we got smoother time series with smaller coordinate repeatability and a more «ITRF2005-conform» velocity field. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser aéroportéRésumé : (Auteur) Airborne lidar systems have come to be extensively used in photogrammetry and mapping sciences. In this paper, a high-quality simulation approach and methods of smallfootprint lidar processing are presented and discussed, validated for tree height estimation, and demonstrated for scanning geometry effects analysis and mobile mapping. The simulation method implemented combines both spatial and radiometric components to produce realistic waveform and point cloud data for system performance analysis and for algorithm development for lidar data processing and mapping purposes. Waveform data generated by the simulator were shown to demonstrate the possibilities of such an approach in system and data verification. As the related empirical data are insufficient for effective research and exploitation in mapping purposes at the moment, the simulated waveform data are needed. A tree location accuracy of 15 cm and tree height underestimation of 0.33 m was found using the simulation model for the TopEye Mk II laser scanner, compared to the artificial forest model reference data. Modeling of light interaction on object surfaces and characteristics of scanning systems provide an opportunity to simulate laser data acquisition of well-defined objects under controlled conditions. By eliminating different sources of error case-by-case, we can improve the knowledge obtained merely from the experimental studies. Data validation in the scanning geometry simulations was carried out by comparing the simulated first echo data to the environment model and, separately, to the first echo data from an independent TopoSys II flight strip that was not used for the environment model computation. The mean differences reveal that the simulator slightly overestimates the object elevations. Deviation between the real TopoSys point cloud and the environmental model was 2 to 3 times larger than that obtained for the simulated Optech and TopoSys data sets.
We believe that the developed simulation and modeling is an efficient tool for determining the most reasonable set of flight parameters for any current mapping task, for analyzing change detection possibilities of repeated laser surveys, and for studying and verifying future lidar systems and concepts. However, this requires high-quality modeling of the system and extensive knowledge of the interaction between the laser beam and the object, which should be further developed in the coming years. [Termes IGN] pouvoir de résolution géométriqueRésumé : (Auteur) This paper examines the effect of scale (exhibited by spatial sampling) in modeling mean slope from lidar data using two representations of scale: lidar posting density (i.e. post-spacing) and DEM resolution (i.e. cell size). The study areas selected include six small (i.e. approximately 3 km2) urban drainage basins in Richland County, SC, USA, which share similar hydrologic characteristics. This research spatially sampled an airborne lidar dataset collected in 2000 at a 2 m nominal posting density to simulate lidar posting density at various post-spacings, from 2 m through 10 m. DEMs were created from the lidar observations at a corresponding cell size using spatial interpolation. Finally, using these DEMs, a sensitivity analysis between modeled terrain slope and lidar post-spacing was conducted. Results of the sensitivity analyses showed that the deviation between mean slope and modeled mean slope decreases with finer posting density and DEM resolution. The relationship of mean slope with varying cell sizes and post-spacing suggests a linear and a logarithmic function, respectively, for all study areas. More importantly, cell size has a greater effect on mean slope than lidar posting density. Implications of these results for lumped hydrologic modeling are then postulated. Although the utilization of this technology has increased in different applications, the development of standard methodologies for the quality assurance of lidar systems and quality control of the derived data has not followed the same trend. In other words, a lack of reliable, practical, cost-effective, and commonly-acceptable methods for quality evaluation is evident. A frequently adopted procedure for quality evaluation is the comparison between lidar data and ground control points. Besides being expensive, this approach is not accurate enough for the verification of the horizontal accuracy, which is known to be worse than the vertical accuracy. This paper is dedicated to providing an accurate, economical, and convenient quality control methodology for the evaluation of lidar data. The paper starts with a brief discussion of the lidar mathematical model, which is followed by an analysis of possible random and systematic errors and their impact on the resulting surface. Based on the discussion of error sources and their impact, a tool for evaluating the quality of the derived surface is proposed. In addition to the verification of the data quality, the proposed method can be used for evaluating the system parameters and measurements. Experimental results from simulated and real data demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed tool.
