[Termes IGN] théorie de Dempster-ShaferRésumé : (auteur) In this paper, we present a model of the uncertainty for the comparison between a raster Digital Elevation Model (D.E.M.) and a medium scale topographic database, applied to the detection of the planimetric changes of the buildings. From the analysis of the sources of uncertainty in both data, we set up a frame for their comparison within the Dempster-Shafer theory of evidence, considered as an extension of the theory of the probabilities. The present proposals show two main advantages. First, the model allows to represent, within an homogeneous theory, various phenomena, such as the local plotting accuracy of a matching process, the matching faults, or the lacks induced by the occlusions of the scene. Secondly, it yields a numerical characterization of the changes without need for any thresholding before the change decision. The current limitations of the study are to put aside the issues raised by the vegetation, and to consider the D.E.M. samples as independent. As such, the theoretical contribution of this paper consists principally in giving a formal basis to a simple characterization, by linking it to a robust theory. A preliminary evaluation of the model gives encouraging results.
