[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) In recent years, there have been many research studies focusing on linear data modeling as well as on temporal GIS-T (GIS for transportation) implementations. However, what was fundamentally missing from the research circle was the study of a methodology for processing and representation of linearly referenced features in the temporal context, or temporal dynamic segmentation. This paper dissects the functional specifications of temporal dynamic segmentation. The authors start by exploring the definition and characteristics of dynamic segmentation. The scope of dynamic segmentation is extended to include two functional categories and three essential functions. The paper then defines spatiotemporal segment and a spatiotemporal join operation, which are the building blocks and the key mechanism behind temporal dynamic segmentation. A set of metric criteria for identifying spatiotemporal segment topologies are proposed as an effective alternative to the more general, but more costly, frameworks for the identification of topological relationships. The authors finally present functional specifications of the three essential functions of dynamic segmentation. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) Building generalization is a difficult operation due to the complexity of the spatial distribution of buildings and for reasons of spatial recognition. In this study, building generalization is decomposed into two steps, i.e. building grouping and generalization execution. The neighbourhood model in urban morphology provides global constraints for guiding the global partitioning of building sets on the whole map by means of roads and rivers, by which enclaves, blocks, superblocks or neighbourhoods are formed, whereas the local constraints from Gestalt principles provide criteria for the further grouping of enclaves, blocks, superblocks and/or neighbourhoods. In the grouping process, graph theory, Delaunay triangulation and the Voronoi diagram are employed as supporting techniques. After grouping, some useful information, such as the sum of the building's area, the mean separation and the standard deviation of the separation of buildings, is attached to each group. By means of the attached information, an appropriate operation is selected to generalize the corresponding groups. Indeed, the methodology described brings together a number of welldeveloped theories/techniques, including graph theory, Delaunay triangulation, the Voronoi diagram, urban morphology and Gestalt theory, in such a way that multiscale products can be derived. [Termes IGN] triangulation de DelaunayRésumé : (Auteur) Clustering algorithms typically use the Euclidean distance. However, spatial proximity is dependent on obstacles, caused by related information in other layers of the spatial database. We present a clustering algorithm suitable for large spatial databases with obstacles. The algorithm is free of user-supplied arguments and incorporates global and local variations. The algorithm detects clusters in complex scenarios and successfully supports association analysis between layers. All this occurs within O(n log n+[s + t] log n) expected time, where n is the number of points, s is the number of line segments that determine the obstacles and t is the number of Delaunay edges intersecting the obstacles. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) A Geographic Information System (GIS) populated with disparate data sources has multiple and différent representations of the same real-world object. Often, the type of information in these sources is différent, and combining them to generate one composite representation has many benefits. The first step in this conflation process is to identify the features in different sources that represent the same real-world entity. The matching process is not simple, since the identified features from different sources do not always match in their location, extent, and description. We present a new approach to matching GIS features from disparate sources. A graph theoretic approach is used to model the geographic context and to determine the matching features from multiple sources. Experiments on implementation of this approach demonstrate its viability.
