[Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (Auteur) Limited development ecological zones (LDEZs) are often located in poverty-stricken, ecologically vulnerable areas where ethnic minorities reside. Studies on optimal spatial land-use allocation in LDEZs can promote economic and intensive land use, improve soil quality, facilitate local socioeconomic development, and maintain environmental stability. In this study, we optimized spatial land-use allocations in an LDEZ using the geographic information system (GIS) and a genetic ant colony algorithm (GACA). The multi-objective function considers economic benefits and ecological green equivalents, and improves soil erosion. We developed the GACA by integrating a genetic algorithm (GA) with an ant colony algorithm (ACA). This avoids a large number of redundant iterations and the low efficiency of the GA, and the slow convergence speed of the ACA. The study area is located in Pengyang County, Ningxia, China, which is a typical LDEZ. The land-use data were interpreted from remote sensing (RS) images and GIS. We determined the optimal spatial land-use allocations in the LDEZ using the GACA in the GIS environment. We compared the original and optimal spatial schemes in terms of economic benefits, ecological green equivalents, and soil erosion. The results of the GACA were superior to the original allocation, the ACA, and the multi-objective genetic algorithm, in terms of the optimum, time, and robust performance indexes. We also present some suggestions for the reasonable development and protection of LDEZs. [Termes IGN] Triangulated Irregular NetworkRésumé : (Auteur) Because of the high number of crashes occurring on highways, it is necessary to intensify the search for new tools that help in understanding their causes. This research explores the use of a geographic information system (GIS) for an integrated analysis, taking into account two accident-related factors: design consistency (DC) (based on vehicle speed) and available sight distance (ASD) (based on visibility). Both factors require specific GIS software add-ins, which are explained. Digital terrain models (DTMs), vehicle paths, road centerlines, a speed prediction model, and crash data are integrated in the GIS. The usefulness of this approach has been assessed through a study of more than 500 crashes. From a regularly spaced grid, the terrain (bare ground) has been modeled through a triangulated irregular network (TIN). The length of the roads analyzed is greater than 100 km. Results have shown that DC and ASD could be related to crashes in approximately 4% of cases. In order to illustrate the potential of GIS, two crashes are fully analyzed: a car rollover after running off road on the right side and a rear-end collision of two moving vehicles. Although this procedure uses two software add-ins that are available only for ArcGIS, the study gives a practical demonstration of the suitability of GIS for conducting integrated studies of road safety. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Glacier avalanches are natural hazards that could damage infrastructures and threaten lives in high-altitude mountainous terrains. On April 7, 2012, a massive ice avalanche struck a Pakistani base at Gayari sector, Saltoro Valley, and buried/killed 148 soldiers and civilians. Keeping in view the catastrophe, a study was designed with the objectives to: 1) model and simulate the Gayari sector glacier avalanche incident in terms of height, extent, velocity, pressure, and momentum; 2) generate hazard risk assessment of possible other glacier avalanches in the Saltoro Valley through modeling and simulation; and 3) suitability analysis of current camp sites and recommendation of new safe camps sites locations in the Saltoro valley. To simulate the Gayari sector glacier event and other Glacier possible avalanches, a physical process-based rapid mass movements (RAMMS) was used. The RAMMS has two main components, i.e., Voellmy-Salm (VS) model and random kinetic energy, which deals with variables such as avalanche height and the mean avalanche velocity during the course of simulation. The suitability analysis of current camp sites were achieved using weighted overlay analysis with different constraints in ArcGIS Spatial Analyst. The RAMMS model simulation of the Gayari avalanche event predicted a maximum velocity of 74 ms -1, generating a pressure of 5074 kPa and attaining a height of 45 m, whereas the predicted debris volume on the ground was 3.8145 million m 3. A good agreement was found between actual debris height and extent, as compared with the RAMMS model output. The RAMMS model simulated all the potential tributary glacier avalanches of Saltoro valley very well. The weighted overlay analyses in ArcGIS Spatial Analyst revealed that the existing camp sites are safe and were not threatened by the glacier avalanche hazard. However, it was recommended that the Gayari camp should not be constructed at the same location and should be relocated to the proposed safe camp sites identified in this research study. The proposed methodology developed in the current study could be applied in the Siachen conflict zone for avalanche hazard/risk analysis of all the camp sites located in the valley.
