[Termes IGN] topologieRésumé : (Auteur) This paper is motivated by the requirement for computer-based representations of geospatial information that parallel the structure of geographic space that humans apprehend. It is well known that such representations do not satisfy the conditions of a metric space. We consider distance and proximity relationships between entities in geographic spaces, and discuss some of the ways in which useful representations take us beyond mathematical metric spaces. We show that even though the underlying space does not satisfy the conditions for a metric space, it is still possible to induce neighbourhood topologies upon it. [Termes IGN] tempsRésumé : (Auteur) The various needs of GIS applications require an extensible data model capable of handling both time dependent spatial and non spatial-data. OOGDM is an object-oriented data model developed to serve as a general base for GIS applications. Two- and three-dimensional raster- and vector-based data is supported by the data model. A SQL-like query language and a data defintion language have been developed for OOGDM. In this paper, we describe recent extensions to OOGDM to incorporate time into the data model and the query language. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a taxonomy of processes and semantics for describing and modelling spatio-temporal evolution with GIS. The approcah is based on an event-oriented representation of spatial dynamics. Events are described by sets of basic and composite processes. We show how this semantic formalism allows for comprehensive decompostion and representation of complex spatio-temporal phenomena. The explicit representation of processes is designed to record temporal relationships between geographic entities and links describing their joint evolution.
