[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) A long-standing question in GIScience is whether geographic information systems (GIS) facilitates an adequate quantifiable representation of the concept of place. Considering the difficulties of quantifying elusive concepts related to place, several researchers focus on more tangible dimensions of the human understanding of place. The most common approaches are semantic enrichment of spatial information and holistic conceptualization of the notion of place. However, these approaches give emphasis on either space or human meaning, or they mainly exist as concepts without practically proven usable artifacts. A partial answer to this problem was proposed by the function-based model that treats place as functional space. This paper focuses primarily on the level of composition, describing and formalizing it as a rule-based framework with the following objectives: (a) contribute to the formalization efforts of the notion of place and its integration within GIS and (b) maintain tangible properties intertwined with the human understanding of place. The operationalization potential of the proposed framework is illustrated with an example of identifying the shopping areas in an urban region. The results show that the proposed model is able to capture all shopping malls as well as other areas that are not explicitly labeled as such but still function similarly to a shopping mall. The processing of this huge amount of information, including spatial properties, which are frequently represented in heterogeneous ways, is a challenging task that has boosted research in the big data area in an attempt to investigate cases and propose new solutions for dealing with its peculiarities. In the literature, many different proposals and approaches for facing the problem have been proposed, addressing different goals and different types of users. However, most are obtained by customizing existing approaches which were originally developed for the processing of big data of the alphanumeric type, without any specific support for spatial or spatiotemporal properties. Thus, the proposed solutions can exploit the parallelism provided by these kinds of systems, but without taking into account, in a proficient way, the space and time dimensions that intrinsically characterize the analyzed datasets. As described in the literature, current solutions include: (i) the on-top approach, where an underlying system for traditional big datasets is used as a black box while spatial processing is added through the definition of user-defined functions that are specified on top of the underlying system; (ii) the from-scratch approach, where a completely new system is implemented for a specific application context; and (iii) the built-in approach, where an existing solution is extended by injecting spatial data functions into its core. This book aims at promoting new and innovative studies, proposing new architectures or innovative evolutions of existing ones, and illustrating experiments on current technologies in order to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of distributed and cluster systems when they deal with spatiotemporal data. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (auteur) Geo-spatial analysis has become an essential component of hydrological studies to process and examine geo-spatial data such as hydrological variables (e.g., precipitation and discharge) and basin characteristics (e.g., DEM and land use land cover). The advancement of the data acquisition technique helps accumulate geo-spatial data with more extensive spatial coverage than traditional in-situ observations. The development of geo-spatial analytic methods is beneficial for the processing and analysis of multi-source data in a more efficient and reliable way for a variety of research and practical issues in hydrology. This book is a collection of the articles of a published Special Issue Geo-Spatial Analysis in Hydrology in the journal ISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information. The topics of the articles range from the improvement of geo-spatial analytic methods to the applications of geo-spatial analysis in emerging hydrological issues. The results of these articles show that traditional hydrological/hydraulic models coupled with geo-spatial techniques are a way to make streamflow simulations more efficient and reliable for flood-related decision making. Geo-spatial analysis based on more advanced methods and data is a reliable resolution to obtain high-resolution information for hydrological studies at fine spatial scale. Note de contenu : 1- Dynamic 3D simulation of flood risk based on the integration of spatio-temporal GIS and hydrodynamic models
2- Integrated hazard modeling for simulating torrential stream response to flash flood events
