[Termes IGN] rapport signal sur bruitRésumé : (Auteur) The Earth Observing-1 (EO-1) satellite acquired a sequence of data in 2001 and 2002 that highlighted the annual flooding of the lower Okavango Delta. The data were collected as part of the calibration/validation programme for the Advanced Land Imager (ALI) sensor on the NASA EO-1 satellite. The primary purpose of this study was to compare the capability of ALI to that of Landsat ETM + for large-scale mapping applications in the Okavango Delta. While the extent and inaccessibility of many areas of the Delta make application of remote sensing attractive, the availability of data with adequate spatial and spectral resolution has limited the characterization of the complex patterns of land cover and geomorphology in the Delta. Initial analysis of the ALI data via supervised classification clearly showed macro-flood features, delineation of downstream channel flow areas, and lateral-downstream inundation of the floodplain. These patterns and the proportions of flooding of the channel compared to that of the floodplain (impoundment) varied annually, from the wetter seasonal swamps through the drier seasonal and occasional swamps. Consistently higher classification accuracies achieved using ALI data relative to ETM + data are attributed to the higher signal-to-noise ratio and the increased dynamic range of the ALI data. [Termes IGN] rugosité du solRésumé : (Auteur) Digital elevation models (DEMs) provide rich clues about various geophysical and geomorphologic processes. These clues include conspicuous protrusions and intrusions of foreground and background portions that testify the presence of channels and ridges in DEMs. We show an application of greyscale granulometries to characterize DEMs through shape-size complexity measures relative to symmetric rhombus, octagon and square templates. We first compute pattern spectra that measure the size distributions of protrusions and intrusions in a DEM. We then employ pattern spectra to compute probability size distribution functions of protrusions and intrusions relative to three templates. We finally compute shape-size complexity measures of DEM by employing these probability functions. To illustrate the implementation of granulometric approach to compute these measures of both background and foreground, we consider an interferometrically generated DEM of a part of Cameron Highlands of Malaysia. Hierarchical watersheds that could be decomposed from DEMs can be better classified via these measures. [Termes IGN] régression multipleRésumé : (Auteur) The objective of this study was to use Landsat Thematic Mapper TM data combined with surface measurements for mapping water quality parameters of Burullus Lake. Water samples were collected in the field at the same time of satellite image acquisition (April, 1997). TM bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and band ratios 1/4, 3/2, 2/1, 4/2, 4/3, 3/4, 7/5 and principal components of TM bands 1-4 (PC1 and PC2) were compared with in situ measurements and laboratory analysis of water samples. The water quality of interest included, Cl-, K+, Na+, soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP) dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN), dissolved oxygen (DO), pH, Salinity, Secchi disc and water depth. Also, the percentage of organic matter in bottom sediments and texture (sand, silt, clay) analyses are used in the evaluation processes. Correlation and regression models were developed between each of the water quality parameter measurements and the radiance of image data. Some water quality parameters were significantly correlated with TM radiance data. Subsequently, multiple linear regression models were used to prepare digital cartographic products depicting the water quality over the entire study area.
