[Termes IGN] traitement de semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) Automatic registration of multiple point clouds is a significant preprocessing step for 3D computer vision tasks including semantic segmentation, 3D modelling, change detection, etc. Many methods were proposed to deal with this problem and yet most of them are not fully utilizing the redundant information offered by multiple common overlaps among point clouds. The existing methods are also inefficient when dealing with large-scale point clouds. In this paper, a novel automatic registration framework is presented to align point clouds efficiently and robustly. First, the overall number of scans is grouped into several scan-blocks by a proposed blocking strategy, and we build the pairwise relationship among scans through a fully connected graph in each scan-block. Second, perform loop-based coarse registration in each scan-block using a proposed false matches removal strategy. The proposed strategy can effectively identify grossly wrong scan-to-scan matches. Third, the minimum spanning tree is extracted from the graph, and ICP is applied along its edges. Moreover, the Lu–Milios algorithm is used to further optimize all poses at once by utilizing all redundant information in each scan-block. Finally, global block-to-block registration aligns all scan-blocks into a uniform coordinate reference. We test our framework on challenging WHU-TLS datasets, ETH datasets, and Robotic 3D Scan datasets to evaluate the efficiency, accuracy, as well as robustness. The experiment results show that our method achieves the state-of-the-art accuracy, while the time performance is improved by more than 30% compared with the state-of-the-art algorithms. [Termes IGN] vision par ordinateurRésumé : (auteur) This manuscript presents an overview of my work in the field of geospatial machine learning, a rapidly growing interdisciplinary field that poses many methodological challenges and has a wide range of impactful applications. Throughout my research, I have focused on developing bespoke approaches that leverage the unique properties of geospatial data to create more efficient, precise, and parsimonious models. This manuscript is divided into four main chapters, each covering a different property of geospatial data structures that can be leveraged algorithmically. The first chapter presents a versatile mathematical framework formalizing the concept of spatial regularity with graphs. We propose an efficient algorithm that tackles a broad family of spatial problems and provides novel convergence guarantees and significant speed-ups compared to generic approaches. The second chapter introduces a deep learning method that extends the idea of exploiting graph regularity to the case of massive 3D point clouds. We simplify the task of large-scale semantic segmentation by formulating it as as a small graph labelling problem. Our compact models reach high precision at a fraction of the computational cost of other approaches. In the third chapter, we present a collection of methods designed to take advantage of the data structure inherited from 3D sensors. By considering the sensors’ structure, we develop powerful networks with state-of-the-art accuracy, latency, and robustness for various applications and data types. The last chapter dives into the real-life challenge of automated satellite time series analysis for crop mapping. Recognizing the difference between such data and standard formats used in computer vision, we propose novel and streamlined architectures that achieve unprecedented precision while remaining efficient and economical in memory and preprocessing. We also introduce the task of panoptic segmentation for satellite time series and an efficient architecture to solve this problem at scale. In summary, this manuscript argues that geospatial problems represent a challenging and impactful venue for evaluating the newest machine learning and vision methods and a fertile source of inspiration for designing novel approaches. [Termes IGN] viticultureRésumé : (auteur) For successful dosing of plant protection products, the characteristics of the vine canopies should be known, based on which the spray amount should be dosed. In the field experiment, we compared two optical experimental methods, terrestrial lidar and aerial photogrammetry, with manual defoliation of some selected vines. Like those of other authors, our results show that both terrestrial lidar and aerial photogrammetry were able to represent the canopy well with correlation coefficients around 0.9 between the measured variables and the number of leaves. We found that in the case of aerial photogrammetry, significantly more points were found in the point cloud, but this depended on the choice of the ground sampling distance. Our results show that in the case of aerial UAS photogrammetry, subdividing the vine canopy segments to 5 × 5 cm gives the best representation of the volume of vine canopies. H.Karst) trees planted with high stem densities produce finely branched, solid logs but are vulnerable to extreme weather events, e.g., storms. Over the last decades spruce stands have been planted at lower stand densities, resulting in wider crowns, lower crown bases, and higher stand stability, but this might decrease the quality of coniferous timber due to an increased growing rate and wider annual rings. Therefore, in this case study we investigated the influence of different silvicultural treatments and stand densities on tree morphology and wood properties of 100 spruce trees up to sawn timber as the final product. Tree morphology was assessed using mobile laser scanning. Ring width analysis, wood density measurements, and the four-point bending strength test on visually graded boards were conducted to gain information on wood properties and product quality. In stands thinned from below, higher wood densities were observed due to smaller annual rings compared to stands that were thinned from above at equal annual ring widths. In addition, crown asymmetry and the height-to-diameter ratio were identified as proxies for wood density. Lastly, visually assessed quality differences between the forest stands were discerned on the examined boards. [Termes IGN] structure-from-motionRésumé : (auteur) Airborne Laser Scanning (ALS) is widely extended in forest evaluation, although photogrammetry-based Structure from Motion (SfM) has recently emerged as a more affordable alternative. Return cloud metrics and their normalization using different typologies of Digital Terrain Models (DTM), either derived from SfM or from private or free access ALS, were evaluated. In addition, the influence of the return density (0.5–6.5 returns m-2) and the sampling intensity (0.3–3.4%) on the estimation of the most common stand structure variables were also analysed. The objective of this research is to gather all these questions in the same document, so that they serve as support for the planning of forest management. This study analyses the variables collected from 60 regularly distributed circular plots (r = 18 m) in a 150-ha of uneven-aged Scots pine stand. Results indicated that both ALS and SfM can be equally used to reduce the sampling error in the field inventories, but they showed differences when estimating the stand structure variables. ALS produced significantly better estimations than the SfM metrics for all the variables of interest, as well as the ALS-based normalization. However, the SfM point cloud produced better estimations when it was normalized with its own DTM, except for the dominant height. The return density did not have significant influence on the estimation of the stand structure variables in the range studied, while higher sampling intensities decreased the estimation errors. Nevertheless, these were stabilized at certain intensities depending on the variance of the stand structure variable.
