[Vedettes matières IGN] SylvicultureRésumé : (éditeur) At the centre of concerns related to curbing the decline in forest biodiversity caused by increasing anthropogenic pressure and global change, old-growth forests are mainly characterised by the continuity of their tree cover. This has been defined mainly by their appearance on historical maps and by ecological criteria dating back to certain temporal cut-off points (about two centuries). Inherited over hundreds, even thousands, of years of interaction between Man and Nature, these ancient forests have been managed and shaped by past societies to meet their various needs, both domestic and industrial. Also, studying the historical trajectories of such forests, their responses to environmental and anthropogenic stress, and the long-term consequences of past human activities, is essential in order to better understand their current ecology and rethink their conservation. The development of pluridisciplinary and interdisciplinary research (ecology, paleoecology, history, archaeology, geography, sociology) now makes it possible not only to push back the hitherto accepted thresholds of ancientness, but in particular to understand old forests in their entirety and complexity over the longer term. This book, comprising both theoretical and methodological contributions along with case studies, reflects the diversity of current approaches and thinking and promotes interdisciplinarity as the only route to a comprehensive understanding of ancient forests as natural and cultural assets. Note de contenu : I- Perception and management of ancient forests as a natural and cultural heritage
II- Investigating forest ancientness: advocating for interdisciplinarity
III- “At the edge of the forest”: other ways to think about ancient and old-growth forests

[Termes IGN] prairieRésumé : (auteur) For the conservation of biodiversity in general and the monitoring of meadow birds in particular, actual grassland - use intensity maps are highly desirable. A method to map and assess grassland management intensity was developed using C5.0 decision tree classification on Sentinel-2 satellite data. Monoculture and extensively managed grasslands on both peat and clay soils could be accurately detected at parcel level in Friesland, the Netherlands. Field - survey - based validation returned an overall classification accuracy of 84.3% (KHAT 0.65). The Sentinel-2 Red-Edge Position vegetation index was found to be a good indicator of fertilization. Availability of springtime imagery, preferably acquired in April before the first mowing date, is essential for accurate classification. The spectral responses of grassland types on peat and clay soils differ significantly. Hence, successful classification requires training data for both soil types. The resulting grassland management map was used to assess the distribution of meadow bird nests. Redshank (79%) and godwit (77%) in particular choose to breed on extensive parcels. With the increasing availability of satellite imagery, remote sensing techniques can be used to monitor agri-environmental measures (at parcel and landscape scale) that impact the conservation of grassland biodiversity.
- de me familiariser avec l’organisation et les missions du MTES puis avec les Plans d’applications satellitaires des MTES et MCT (Ministère de la Cohésion des Territoires). J’ai en effet effectué un état de l’art à partir des différents rapports et bilans des PAS précédents et des volontés exprimées de mises en oeuvre du nouveau ;
- de me pencher sur les différentes actions qui ressortaient et qui ont été retenues par les directions générales pour bien comprendre les intérêts des politiques publiques du ministère ;
- de recenser les besoins utilisateurs en rencontrant différents acteurs et utilisateurs des domaines spatial et satellitaire. Je me suis rendu compte de nombreux problèmes de communication et de partage des données et de services qui subsistent encore et toujours entre les acteurs. Il m’a fallu organiser les nombreux besoins qui ont émané des rencontres, les analyser puis chercher à apporter des solutions existantes aux problématiques de chacun ;
- d’étudier des communautés existantes pour comprendre au mieux leur fonctionnement, leurs avantages et leurs inconvénients et chercher celui ou ceux qui seraient le(s) plus adapté(s) à notre future communauté ;
Note de contenu : Introduction

This fourth volume of the set is dedicated to the presentation and the practice of QGIS and its libraries of applications dealing with water and risk management issues. In the context of global changes (climatic and anthropogenic), understanding and quantifying water resource dynamics and the various aspects of risks is essential for managers in public authorities and local population. This work is carried out by scientists who are proficient to a high level of technicality. The book is targeted at students (Masters, engineering students, PhDs), engineers involved in the management of water resources and territory, and research teams in geomatics. In addition to the text, readers will have access to data and tools allowing the integral realization of the scientific procedures described in each chapter, as well as screenshots of all the windows which illustrate the manipulations necessary for the realization of each application.
