[Termes IGN] zone humideRésumé : (Introduction) In wetlands, hydrological regimes determine values of functions and ecosystem services. If hydrological regimes of wetlands are now widely handled by environmental managers, its impacts on both floods and vegetation dynamics are still unexplored. Simultaneously, the new Earth observation Sentinel-1 constellation, allowing all weather radar acquisitions with high temporal and spatial resolution appears as a promising opportunity for the monitoring of wetlands. In the same time, this study aims at (i) evaluating the ability of a Sentinel-1 time for the detection and monitoring of flood areas at 1:50 000 scale across a 100 000 hectares marsh; (ii) exploring the relation between the hydrological dynamic and ecological processes. [Vedettes matières IGN] Ecologie forestièreRésumé : (auteur) In the context of forest and landscape management, the use of introduced tree species is an important and controversial topic. On one hand, the species can provide an opportunity for timber production and for adapting the species composition within forests so that forests can better cope with the changing climate while on the other hand, such species may cause biodiversity loss and/or disturbance to native ecosystems. Introduced tree species in European forests – opportunities and challenges is a compilation of scientific and practical knowledge on introduced tree species in European forests and contains contributions from 89 authors from 18 countries. The historical context of species introductions plays a key role in understanding the current as well as possible future distribution of tree species. There has been an intensive discussion on the interactions between the introduced tree species and their introduced environment, and also on the processes that may lead to the species becoming invasive within their introduced range. The risk of a species becoming invasive can be evaluated using suitable risk assessments that help us to predict the future behaviour of the species, and also the potential contributions of these species to ecosystem services provided by the forests where they occur. Therefore, the links between the introduced tree species and the key topics such as economics, climate change, pests and diseases and effects on biodiversity are also assessed in order to demonstrate the complexity of the issues pertaining to the introduction of tree species. Case studies of selected introduced tree species occurring in Europe are presented to demonstrate the necessity to manage ecosystems in order to fulfil certain goals; the case studies cover species- specific and site-specific experiences as sharing the application of suitable management practices is of particular interest. [Vedettes matières IGN] Ecologie forestièreRésumé : (auteur) Questions : Mycorrhizal symbiosis plays a key role in plant communities. Its prevalence in plant communities (mycorrhization) at larger spatial scales has so far been mostly qualitative, while quantitative studies incorporating the mycorrhizal traits of plant species are scarce. This study aims to: (1) determine the variation in general and arbuscular mycorrhization in temperate forests and grasslands, (2) study the effects of soil N, pH and moisture on mycorrhization, and (3) determine the relationships between mycorrhization and plant diversity.
Location : Temperate forests and grasslands in Estonia, Northern Europe.
Methods : To quantify mycorrhization we used a plant community mycorrhization index – community mean of mycorrhizal status weighted by plant species abundances. The effects of edaphic factors characterized by cumulative Ellenberg values on mycorrhization were analysed using linear mixed models, and the relationship between mycorrhization and diversity was evaluated with partial correlation and variance partitioning.
Results : General mycorrhization was higher in forests and lower in grasslands, opposite to arbuscular mycorrhization. Soil N, pH and moisture negatively impacted general mycorrhization, whereas arbuscular mycorrhization was positively affected by soil pH and negatively by soil N and moisture. Plant species richness was negatively correlated with general mycorrhization in forests, whereas arbuscular mycorrhization was positively associated with plant species richness, Shannon and Simpson indices in forests and across ecosystems.
Conclusions : Mycorrhization is highly dependent on soil conditions and related to plant diversity, showing its importance for vegetation science. The plant community mycorrhization index used in this study is a promising tool for quantifying the prevalence of mycorrhizal symbiosis along environmental gradients.

[Termes IGN] répartition géographiqueRésumé : (auteur) The spatial distribution of large mammals has been increasing in industrial nations, often leading to conflicts with humans and significant alteration of natural ecosystems. Species distribution models (SDMs) of the sika deer, Japanese serow, wild boar, Japanese macaque and Asiatic black bear in Japan were constructed to identify the important factors for habitat management. We also projected two scenarios of their future range expansions under a scenario of no change in the variables, and one where the variables change according to a time series. Modelling showed that all species preferred forest and forest/agricultural ecotones. In the best models of the sika deer and wild boar, grasslands (GRASSs) were an important positive factor, while human population density and hunting pressures were negative factors. High human population density was also a negative factor with the Japanese serow and Asiatic black bear. Key environments for the distribution and expansion of large mammals were agricultural areas near forest and GRASSs. Therefore, limiting the access of large mammals to such habitats may contribute to wildlife management. In both scenarios, our projections suggest that the distributions of all species could expand by 2028, resulting in more conflict with humans and significant alterations to natural ecosystems in the future. In order to stop this damaging expansion, habitat management and landscape redesign are important. However, a SDM and future projection include uncertainty. It is necessary to validate the estimates and projections by monitoring the future changes in distribution.
