[Termes IGN] ville durableRésumé : (auteur) Recently, the severe intensification of atmospheric carbon has highlighted the importance of urban tree contributions in atmospheric carbon mitigations in city areas considering sustainable urban green planning and management systems. Explicit and timely information on urban trees and their roles in the atmospheric Carbon Stock (CS) are essential for policymakers to take immediate actions to ameliorate the effects of deforestation and their worsening outcomes. In this study, a detailed methodology for urban tree CS calibration and mapping was developed for the small urban area of Sassuolo in Italy. For dominant tree species classification, a remote sensing approach was applied, utilizing a high-resolution WV3 image. Five dominant species were identified and classified by applying the Object-Based Image Analysis (OBIA) approach with an overall accuracy of 78%. The CS calibration was done by utilizing an allometric model based on the field data of tree dendrometry—i.e., Height (H) and Diameter at Breast Height (DBH). For geometric measurements, a terrestrial photogrammetric approach known as Structure-from-Motion (SfM) was utilized. Out of 22 randomly selected sample plots of 100 square meters (10 m × 10 m) each, seven plots were utilized to validate the results of the CS calibration and mapping. In this study, CS mapping was done in an efficient and convenient way, highlighting higher CS and lower CS zones while recognizing the dominant tree species contributions. This study will help city planners initiate CS mapping and predict the possible CS for larger urban regions to ensure a sustainable urban green management system. [Termes IGN] zone à risqueRésumé : (Auteur) The use of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data is presently well established in operational services for flood management. Nevertheless, detecting inundated vegetation and urban areas still represents a critical issue, because the radar signatures of these targets are often ambiguous. This paper analyzes the role of the interferometric coherence in complementing intensity SAR data for mapping floods in agricultural and urban environments. The advantages of the joint use of intensity and coherence are first discussed in a theoretical way and then verified on a case study, namely, the flood that hit the Emilia-Romagna region (Northern Italy) in January 2014. The short revisit time of the COSMO-SkyMed images, as well as a dedicated acquisition plan tailored to the requirements of the Italian Civil Protection Department, has allowed us to build a data set of radar interferometric observations of the event. Results show that the analysis of the multitemporal trend of the coherence is useful for the interpretation of SAR data since it enables a considerable reduction of classification errors that could be committed considering intensity data only. Interferometric data have permitted us to distinguish zones where water receded from areas where it persisted for a longer time and, in one case, to measure changes of water level. [Termes IGN] tour (bâtiment)Résumé : (auteur) A tall masonry building in an area hit by an earthquake could suffer of some damages whose detection and evaluation are necessary for both emergency management and planning of restoration works. A complete characterization of the health state of a potentially damaged structure requires an integration of data provided by several techniques, which could be impossible in earthquake emergency conditions. The duration of a seismic sequence can reach several months and the state of a tall building could change after each significant shock. Terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) allows a fast and contactless acquisition as well as an accurate geometric modeling of a building and therefore can be used to evaluate the seismic-induced changes, possibly related to damages. The results of a study based on TLS monitoring the 100-m high Asinelli tower (Bologna, Italy), which is a very important element of the Italian medieval cultural heritage, during the 2012 Emilia Romagna seismic sequence are provided and discussed here. This work focuses on both method and case study. It is aimed to show how much information, reliable and accurate, can be extracted in a quick and simple way under alert conditions. Moreover, the structural behavior of the tower is provided. Considerations about natural oscillations of a tower subjected to seismic activity are also provided.
