[Termes IGN] signal GNSSRésumé : (auteur) Using the Doppler frequency obtained from tracking a GNSS pilot signal to aid in tracking another signal modulated with higher rate navigation messages in a different frequency band can improve tacking robustness and lower the message demodulation threshold. Based on an analysis of received signal frequency coherence, a linearized mathematical model of the cross-frequency Doppler-assisted carrier phase tracking loop is built, a thermal noise jitter calculation equation for the assisted tracking loop is derived, and its dynamic stress response characteristics are examined. The loop design requirements for eliminating the influence of inter-frequency frequency bias are clarified, as are the cross-frequency assist signal selection criteria. Monte Carlo simulations and preliminary field tests validate the theoretical results using the B1C pilot signal-aided tracking B2b signal of the MEO satellite in the BeiDou satellite navigation system (BDS). Experimental results show that the carrier phase tracking threshold of the B2b signal can be reduced by about 4 dB. [Termes IGN] zone urbaine denseIndex. décimale : THESE Thèses et HDR Résumé : (auteur) Achieving an accurate localization is a significant challenge for low-cost GNSS devices in dense urban areas. The main limitations are encountered in the urban canyons, consisting in a reduced satellite signal availability and a positioning estimation error due to the impact of Line-of-Sight and Non Line-of-Sight multipath phenomenon. This PhD study allows to understand the impact of the multipath phenomenon on the low-cost GNSS receivers and to prove the need of accurate assessment of the multipath error model affecting the GNSS measurements, especially in urban environment. It consists in the investigation, characterization, and finally, exploitation of the multipath error components affecting the pseudorange and pseudorange-rate measurements, of a single frequency, dual constellation GNSS receiver in the urban environment, operating with GPS L1 C/A and Galileo E1 OS signals. The first goal consists in providing a set of methodologies able to identify, isolate and characterize the multipath error components from the measurements under test. However, considering that the isolation of the multipath error is a complex operation due to the superimposed effects of multipath and thermal noise, the final method consists of isolating the joint contribution of multipath and thermal noise components. The isolated multipath and thermal noise error components are firstly classified depending the corresponding received signal /0 values, and, secondly, statistically characterized by means of Probability Density Function, sample mean and sample variance. Also, the temporal and spatial correlation properties of the isolated error components are calculated by means of a methodology which estimates the temporal correlations as a function of the receiver speed. In addition, an image processing methodology based on the application of a sky-facing fish-eye camera provides the determination of an empirical /0 threshold equal to 35 dB-Hz used to qualitatively identify the Non Line- Of-Sight and Line-Of-Sight received signal reception states. The resulting errors are characterized by a nonsymmetrical, positive biased PDF for a /0 lower than 35 dBHz, while they are characterized by a symmetrical and zero-centred PDF for a /0 higher than 35 dB-Hz. Correlation times for pseudoranges are ranged from around 5s for static and very low speed dynamics to around 1s for high-speed dynamics. Correlation times for pseudorange-rates ranged from around 0.5s for static and very low speed dynamics to around 0.2s for high-speed dynamics, due to the data-rate limitations. The second goal consists in exploiting the multipath and thermal noise error models and the LOS/NLOS received signal reception state estimation in a low-complex EKF-based architecture to improve the accuracy of the PVT estimates. This is obtained by implementing some techniques based on the measurement weighting approach to take into account the statistical properties of the error under exam and by the application of a time differenced architecture design to exploit the temporal correlation properties. Positioning performance of the tested solutions surpassed the performances of a simple EKF architecture and are comparable to the performances of a uBlox M8T receiver. [Termes IGN] rapport signal sur bruitRésumé : (Auteur) Sentinel-1 (S1) extra-wide (EW) swath data in cross-polarization (horizontal–vertical, HV or vertical–horizontal, VH) are strongly affected by the scalloping effect and thermal noise, particularly over areas with weak backscattered signals, such as sea surfaces. Although noise vectors in both the azimuth and range directions are provided in the standard S1 EW data for subtraction, the residual thermal noise still significantly affects sea ice detection by the EW data. In this article, we improve the denoising method developed in previous studies to remove the additive noise for the S1 EW data in cross-polarization. Furthermore, we propose a new method for eliminating the residual noise (i.e., multiplicative noise) at the subswath boundaries of the EW data, which cannot be well processed by simply subtracting the reconstructed 2-D noise field. The proposed method of removing both the additive and multiplicative noise was applied to EW HV-polarized images processed using different Instrument Processing Facility (IPF) versions. The results suggest that the proposed algorithm significantly improves the quality of EW HV-polarized images under various sea ice conditions and sea states in the marginal ice zone (MIZ) of the Arctic. This is of great support for the utilization of cross-polarization synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images in wide swaths for intensive sea ice monitoring in polar regions. [Termes IGN] télédétection en hyperfréquenceRésumé : (auteur) VIPR (vapor in-cloud profiling radar) is a tunable G-band radar designed for humidity and cloud remote sensing. VIPR uses all-solid-state components and operates in a frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) radar mode, offering a transmit power of 200–300 mW. Its typical chirp bandwidth of 10 MHz over a center-frequency tuning span of 167–174.8 GHz results in a nominal range resolution of 15 m. The radar’s measured noise figure over the transmit band is between 7.4 and 10.4 dB, depending on its frequency and hardware configuration, and its calculated antenna gain is 58 dB. These parameters mean that with typical 1 ms chirp times, single-pulse cloud reflectivities as low as −26 dBZ are detectable with unity signal-to-noise at 5 km. Experimentally, radar returns from ice clouds above 10 km in height have been observed from the ground. VIPR’s absolute sensitivity was validated using a spherical metal target in the radar antenna’s far-field, and a G-band switch has been implemented in an RF calibration loop for periodic recalibration. The radar achieves high sensitivity with thermal noise limited detection both by virtue of its low-noise RF architecture and by using a quasioptical duplexing method that preserves ultrahigh transmit/receive isolation despite operation in an FMCW mode with a single primary antenna shared by the transmitter and receiver. [Termes IGN] transformation de FourierRésumé : (auteur) Interferogram filtering for noise reduction is a key to many radar interferometric applications. Repeat pass radar interferometry often uses data with less than ideal correlation levels resulting from either long spatial or temporal baselines or changes between observations leading to high levels of temporal correlation. To maximize the utility of such pairs filtering the interferogram to get maximal noise reduction is often needed. One technique that has proved quite useful in the geophysical community is power spectral or Goldstein–Werner filtering of the interferogram whereby a power-weighted version of the Fourier transform is used to enhance fringe visibility. Although this paper defining the filter briefly touched upon the spatial resolution and noise reduction induced by the filter, it did not provide a useful formula for predicting the phase noise after filtering. This paper derives a formula for the phase noise obtained from power spectral filtering albeit under the restriction of several simplifying assumptions to make the problem analytically tractable. In particular, it is assumed that the interferometric phase is locally well approximated by a linear phase ramp with nonlinear phase perturbations small in a spectral energy sense compared to the linear term.
